I am so happy that my thoughts were pretty much on the same page. I was told that I dont live in the real world when I said that NO WAY at 13 , are my kids dating! My thought is High School Age is OK.

I didn't allow my daughters to date at all. I was not allowed to date during my childhood my first boyfriend was after i graduated from college. I felt education was most important and tried to instill into my children the same reasons. Don't get tied down at an early age, enjoy life. You are the parent / head of household your decision is what counts - but just because i didn't allow them to date - didn't mean they didn't have the secret boyfriend girlfriend walking with them to class, riding on the bus, meeting at the mall, etc. it will happen. Rules are the same both boy/girl.

I have one son, and I would like him to wait on having a girlfriend until he is at least in high school. So freshman year at least. At 15 he should be old enough to have a girlfriend, but we have a rule about it only being group activities until he is 16. I saw too much turmoil with my friends children when they had boyfriend or girlfriends earlier than that which is why the rule is going to be what it is.

I wasn't allowed to date until I was 16. And we are holding the same rule for our girls. I think any younger is inappropriate and ill-advised. As a matter of fact I just answered a question from a 13 year old that is pregnant!! How awful is that? We owe it to our children to be their parent not their friend and make sure that they understand what dating is, what is appropriate dating behavior & plenty of sex education before we let them date. That is my belief for girls and boys.

I tell my kids they can't kiss the opposite until they are 18 and I have two girls and one son! I know I'm dreaming! I would like it be at least 16 if not 17! Some of my friends kids are dating at the age of 14 and it has be nothing but bad situtaions.

In my house, it's different for each kid. My oldest is trustworthy, reliable, and not the type to cave in to peer pressure. I allowed him to have a "girlfriend" at 14, but with no privacy whatsoever. (I believe in "trust, but verify") My daughter is a little troublemaker who will never be trustworthy enough to date. Try as we might, we have been unable to instill any moral fiber in the child. I don't want her out of my sight until her wedding night. My other two kids we're waiting to see on.

16 but only Christians, and I mean true Christians who we know from church, and only to church sponsored outings or as a group like for pizza, bowling etc. 100% of the teens we know are like this. That's plenty of socializing until college. Yes there are kids who live like this, w/out pre-marital sex, pregnancies, abortions, alcohol or drugs and I don't mean mormons.

It really has a lot to do with trust and maturity. I think it shouldn't matter whether it is a son or daughter. They just got to know the rules and have a good sense of things.
