well to the best of my knowledge, I don;t recall a dodge ever being recalled for burstign into flame.. Ie pinto, and crown vic
Dodge implimented automatic hubs in their trucks long before chevy and ford so you didnt need to get out in the mud to lock your hubs in
the 2.2/2.5 engines don;t self destruct when the timing belt breaks
Dodge engines are built with a higher nickle content so the cylenders donw wear down near as fast
theres more old k cars on the road than escorts
fords cheap copy of the caravan.. didnt even bother to have any form of frame under it
Rangers rust out.. but one would be hard pressed to see a dakota rusted out
Biggest dumb thing ford did though on repairs.. who else would run the ac lines thru the serpentine belt? i mean who wants to discharge and recharge their ac just to change the belts?

It depends on the vehicle and the tastes of the driver. Personally, I'd check out the website www.consumeraffairs.com. Right now Ford is in serious trouble over the quality of their vehicles. I've owned two Fords and one was the best car we've ever owned, the other one was the worst. There were more problems with the service and the body integrity, electrical and steering on this vehicle than any other we've had. This one was also the most expensive. My Dodge hasn't been so great either; but at least this car has improved with age and maintenance. The Ford ended up being hauled off to the scrapyard and that one was less than six years old.

Thats not really a simple question.
To the guy explaining all the problems with ford, you're living in the past buddy, anyone who won't get a ford because of a dangerous car they made 30 years ago, is just plain ignorant. And the crown vic I recall was only when they were rammed from behind at something crazy lke 70mph, I think any car would burst into flames but ford got the heat because they were police cars bursting.
I like ford better than dodge for a few reasons. FIrst, fords are generally more reliable that dodge. Also, I don't like how dodge is owned by a german company but marketed as american.

Ford isn't any better than dodge. Me and my friends are poor, so we have owned lots of different car makes and models, usually old pieces of crap. So we drive cars until the wheels fall off literally. It has been my experience that Ford's usually have problems over heating and usually end up having serious engine problems, Cracked cylinder heads and engine blocks etc. Most problems I have experienced with Dodge are ignition problems coils, distributors etc. and starters. I honestly don't think either company is any better than the other, But if I had to say so I would choose Dodge over Ford any day.

I don't think ford is better at all. I own 3 dodge's and have never had any problems. My brother has had 2 fords and he's always replacing parts to his. I think its a matter of opinion tho.

ok frist of all i am a chevy guy though and though but you asked about dodge and ford so i will try to just state the facts as i KNOW then. dodge until about 1988-89 had the weakest elliptical systems in there cars and trucks meaning that dash lights horns power windows and locks as well as gages just stop working. and i believe this is dodges biggest down fall. but ford is no better because they will take a proven design that has worked flawlessly for years then totally redesign it so it works for two years then it complete trash power window switches is a good case in point as well as there 4x4 servos. chevy has had junk come down the line as well but this is how i rate them all as of right now. if you want a truck that you can beat the hell out of and you only plan on keeping it for 2-4 years buy a ford. if you are buying a truck that looks nice and it will receive some abuse and you still want a conferable ride then please buy a chevy buy if you are only using a truck to go to work and you might only haul or tow something once in a while and you wash and wax it weekly then buy a dodge. this is also only for 1/2 ton trucks as i believe the dodge 3500 is the meanest truck with no mods from the factory.

dodge has thir problems just like ford. dodge had that big balljoint recall on their dakotas and durangos. also in the older dakotas 97 to 2000 the heater cores forsome reason breaks and spills coolant all over the passenger floor. no one including dodge knows why this doews it. my sister had a 98 dakota and she went through 3. and to get the heater core out you need to tear out the whole dash.
I owned a 95 ranger XLT with the 2.3 4 banger for almost 10 years and was never rusted out and looked just liek it did when I first got it. you can make any vehicle look good years down the road if you jsut take care of it. only reason I got rid of the ranger for my 03 dakota was becasue it was a quad cab and I had just had my son. so it was for more room and nothing more. if I would of not had my son I would still prob have that lil ranger.
so one isnt better than the other., it just comes down to personal preferance. just like people that loves watching nascar. if their fav driver drives chevy on the track. they drive chevy jsut becasue of tehir fav driver does too.

hey guy talking about how ford has not had dangerous cars that burst into flame. have you not heard about the recent explorers and excursions which have burned up because of a valve leak under the hood. we own a ford and have taken for repair many times. the last time we took it in we found out that the same valve leak was happening on our car. it was a pure luck that our car didn't burst into flame.
the dodges we own are extremely tough. we put them through tons of crap and they still run great. plus we rarely have to do major work on them.

Its not, it is proven in consumer reports. haven't you noticed how ford is declining their US sales, while Daimler Chrysler is increasing? Also haven't you heard of the financial trouble that ford is in? I know that there is a rumor that GM will buy Chrysler, but trust me, that is just for publicity. Gm will be long gone before Chrysler is done. I am not saying that ford is incapable of making a good vehicle, it really depends on which category. Lets say a family sedan, for example. The ford 500 and Chrysler 300 are priced about the same, are about the same size, but what are really the differences? Well the 300c has 47 more hp, german engineered, and more features for the price. Good luck on whatever you choose!!
