I have a male cat, about 1 yrs old now and recently he has been getting into a lot of fights with the neighbors female cat. Now... i am not sure whther this is "normal" cat behavior or something to worry about, but due to these (cat fights) he engages in he gets hurt. Has scratches, open wounds, bleeding... Just recently i witnessed one of these fights and was scared half to death, violent indeed and they wouldnt stop. Also his attitude changes, he becomes lazy and depressed looking, doesnt want to be petted or touched and often hides under the bed. If anyone has anything to say about this please let me know, thank you.

Is your cat neutered? If not, that could be a major cause for the fighting. Neutered cats are much less territorial and generally fight a lot less than non-neutered cats. They also tend to be more affectionate when they are neutered. If he is not, I would get it done ASAP. That may help. If he is already neutered, there may not be a lot you can do aside from keeping him indoors.
As far as being depressed, it could be a result of injuries from the fighting. If these fights are taking place in your yard, you can try to keep the other cat out of your yard if possible. A good spray with a hose whenever you see her come in your yard may eventually keep her from coming around, and of course wouldn't hurt her.
If the fights are taking place in the neighbor's yard, you could try to talk to them about doing the same thing with the hose to your cat. It would be better than him getting hurt. You could also ask if their cat is neutered. If she isn't, this could be making her more territorial.

Is your male cat neutered? "coz usually, a neutered male cat will not pester a female cat unless they share the same den. Perhaps the first thing you have to do is get your kitty fixed. The next thing you need to do is keep him indoors when you cannot supervise him outdoors.
And YES. It is normal for cats to get into fights - normal BUT NOT GOOD (they get injured or catch diseases from other cats and you have to foot a vet bill that could've been avoided). Cat fights are usually territorial battles between two felines. But if your male is intact, he may be trying to mount the female cat. Since he is young (1 yr old), he hasn't had enough experience to subdue a female effectively. So, he gets whooped and then he gets depressed.

It's perfectly normal. Most male felines don't interact except for sex. Feline domestic cats will live together in order to protect their young from males, who will kill them as quickly as they would a rabbit or a bird. You and your neighbor have created a war zone. There is no reason to let a pet cat roam outside as they are perfectly happy in a house or even an apartment, so long as they are kept there. If you want a happier, healthier cat, keep him or her inside. They adjust. If not, the fights can cause permanent damage and there is nothing so pathetic as a cat which has been blinded in one eye. Since it can't judge distance, it will live on the floor and if you lift it up it will cry to be lifted down. Be responsible. Let your neighbor be the stupid one.

It's a territorial thing. My friends cat did the same thing when they got a 2nd one. Totally normal. The problem is, if he's getting hurt, you really need to keep them away from eachother. My friends cat just hissed and growled. So I don't know what to do. Go to an animal shelter or a pet store and ask for advice on what you should do about it :)

Cats are territorial animals, and they will fight fiercely to protect their turf. When my alley cat was an indoor-outdoor cat, she frequently got into combat with other cats. I recommend that you have your cat neutered, if he isn't already; and also that you keep him indoors from now on. One of those wounds could all too easily develop a life-threatening infection; a friend of mine recently lost a cat because one of his wounds got badly infected. My cat, despite being a former stray, quickly adjusted to the strictly indoor life.

He may be hurt. I would take him to a vet. and possibly do not let him outside?! Cats fight all the time and they can hurt each other.

Is your cat fixed, is the neighbor's cat fixed? If they are both male and not neutered they may fight. I wouldn't let my cat out if I were you.
Good luck
