Who needs em?
Maybe in the old days or in places with high illiteracy rates.
Somebody has to read and interpret Bible for them.
But why in the U.S for instance?
People reading levels are high enough to at least read the BIBLE.
It is not a real deep book.
Written by bronze age tribe perhaps but not indecipherable.
The metaphors and similes don't take a whole lot of brain power to interpet.
So why do we still have preachers?

I am agnostic on a good day.

Pastors not only preach but they are also shepherds. They care for the flock. Taking care of those in need and leading the congregation in their servant hood. So as long as God calls people to preach and lead -we will follow and obey.
But I am amazed at your observations concerning the Bible.
I have to assume from this comment that you have read the entire Bible? I am curious what do you think of the book of Job? I can not imagine anyone seeing that book as simple.

A pastor is a leader. Christ never said that we were on this journey alone. Some of us have gifts that others do not have. Pastors have that gift of leadership as well as many having the gift of wisdom and knowledge. What one person knows about scripture, another person may not know. Yes, we can read the Bible on our own, but we not get all the meanings that are in there and end up missing something very important.

Besides, church isn't just for learning about Christ. It's also a place for prayer and support. A pastor does more than just preach a sermon on Sundays. They counsel, they pray with people, they guide people on their Christian journey. It's more than just preaching.

you have obviously never read the Bible. Try and read it and if you have any problems understanding it ask Holy Spirit to help you and He will help you understand.

My Pastor is a well educated man and theologian.
He's a great resource for many things, and a great leader.

They don't hear the Gospel without a preacher. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Romans 10:14 - How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. 19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. 21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

1 Corinthians 1:18 - For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:21 - For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

1 Corinthians 1:23 - But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

1 Corinthians 1:25 - Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 2:14 - But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 3:19 - For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

1 Peter 1:12 - Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
