We got one at pet-smart. Used it on 2 cats. They did well with it and didn't seem to mind. It was a harness type leash. Before you try walking the cat outside with it get them used to it in your house.

I have used a cat leash on my eldest cat (11 months old) and it does work. I attached the $5 leash on the back of her collar and took her outside. All of my kittens are inside cats so that's the only way the get out. I haven't tried it with my younger two (5 month old and 6 month old) as their necks are a little small and I'm afraid they will slip out of the collar! You can get a harness for the cat where the leash is clipped on the back.

You can get them at any pet store and you can usually find them at a supermarket.

They look exactly like a ferret harness!

A cat leash is connected to a harness that goes around the torso just back of the legs as well as around the neck. You can't walk a cat the way you walk a dog; you can get a cat to go in a general direction - more or less - but a lead is more for keeping a cat from running off than "walking" her. You walk a dog, but a cat walks you.

You can get a cat harness and leash at any pet shop. I have no idea if they are at all like ferret leashes.

For a cat, you need a harness, with a leash. They are not built like dogs that can wear a leash on their collar. The harness is actually very helpful, at least once your cat gets used to wearing it, and the leash. The cat has freedom with the harness to still walk good. Be prepared tho, you may end up having to hold your cat, even so. Take care.

I've used them on my cats before. The leash is very lightweight so it doesn't bother the cat, but strong. You can get them at most pet stores. Make sure to use a harness that is designed for cats & not small dogs - cats can wriggle out of a dog harness. The kind I use is a 'figure 8' style.

Try the harness on the cat at home, and give your cat treats & play with it to try to distract it from the harness. Give it some time to get used to the harness before you try to attach a leash. When I first put harnesses on my cats, they acted like they weighed 50 pounds, but they got used to them after a couple of hours. Then attach the leash & let the cat pull it around & play with it.

Don't take your cat outside unless your cat is relatively easygoing and unlikely to freak out & be startled easily. Even with a leash on, if a cat gets really frightened it can still get away from you - it may even bite and scratch you to get away if it's really scared. Whenever I took my cats out (only one at a time for safety's sake), I would take along a soft-sided carrier (they usually have a shoulder strap for easy carrying) just in case something happened that made my cat nervous, or if I suspected something might upset my cat, so I could put the cat in it or just open the door & let the cat go inside if it got frightened. It's also a good idea to put a safety breakaway collar with current identification tags on your cat when you go out.

When you walk, you'll mostly just be following the cat around as it explores and just using the leash for safety, rather than leading the cat around with the leash.

Have fun!

I use those retractable leashes so the cats can go a fair distance away (like under the stairs where there are bugs I don't want to have to deal with myself) but still be connected to me. Then when it's time to move on, I hit the retract button and reel the cats in. You do need to use a figure-8 harness because cats can squirm out of collars and dog harnesses (and mine even got out of the figure-8 but that time I was faster than she was). Be prepared to pick up your cat and carry it indoors when the time comes because mine never ever want to go back inside. It'll take a little time for your cat to get used to wearing "clothes" (the harness) but once he/she is used to that, you just attach a leash. Once mine figured out that wearing the harness and leash meant going OUTSIDE, they loved the harness and leash.

I used a leash for my cat once.. I dont think you can't really "walk" a cat like you can a dog though, well at least my cat just kinda flops down and rolls on the sidewalk when I tried to "walk" him.. You can get them at any pet store, and probably some grocery stores. I'd assume they'd be similar to a ferret leash.

I use a leash for one of my cats when we go to the vet (the others I use a carrier for, but they're not as dog friendly as my youngest one is). She has a figure-8 harness that the leash attaches to - very much like a ferret set-up. In fact, when she was very small, I used the ferret harness on her.
If your cat is accustomed to them, they work great.

There are several types of cat harnesses available and cats hate them with a passion until they get used to wearing them.. then comes the leash and another fight... but after a time they can be walked on a leash... have fun..

Ive used a cat leash before. My cat needs one when she goes to the vet because she likes to get into the toilet..LOL. You can buy one at Petco for about $5. And yes they are similar to the one's ferrets use but not quite.
