I understand the true meaning of faith as believing in something when theres no evidence of it, but I am not capable of this. I do want to know God within me, but I cannot without an obvious sign that he's there. When I die, is he merciful enough to understand this and take me in, or will I go to hell anyway? Because his understanding is the only hope I have to get into heaven, if its really there. If the rapture ever really does happen, I will be left here. But I am willing to endure the horrific time after just to know hes really there. Of course, I would be a devout christian leader at that time. But until or any of this comes to light, I live on science and philosophy. If I die before it can be proven to me, does God have room for me?

I've asked this question before, but it seemed as if everyone eas answering me as if I'd had no christian experience at all. Im 27. I was raised baptist. I fell out of religion because I couldn't believe it. I still pray even today for him to show me something. My question is, what if I die before that ever happens.

I'm not looking for advice, folks. I'm looking for an answer to my question. Will god understand my dilemma, or will he cast me into hell for not believing in him?

I think that you should reconsider the blind faith option. Seriously.

Here's what I mean: There is, in fact, no evidence that any gods exist. If you really want to believe in a god, and you insist on evidence, you are either going to be disappointed, or you will resort to lying to yourself, and probably to the rest of us as well. That path leads to the evil kind of religion.

Faith - belief in the absence of evidence - is perfectly okay. It's honest, as it requires you to accept and admit to the fact that there is no evidence for a god.

Now, I still think you'd be believing something that is false, but if you're able to hold that belief on the basis of faith, it's simply yet another false belief, and we all have thousands of those. It's only if you insist on lying - on claiming to have evidence for the belief - that you are doing something terribly wrong.

It's strange how people say that. When I went to high-school, when the topic of the Roman Empire came up, the story of "Jesus" was quickly rushed through. Now, to me, I went to a private school where when they talked of the Roman Empire, they did not skip the Empire, then talk about Jesus. They talked about the Emperors, the history, and so forth. I, to this day don't understand why it is left out when it happen during that period. The only thing I can figure out so far, is that J.C. never picked up a sword and conquered people in this manner. But every other conqueror was the opposite. Something so easily passed, cannot be ignored. This is why I have faith. To me, I adds a little insight I guess.

I hate to answer a question with a question, but how much evidence do you need? If you are open to scientific colloboration of what is in the bible and to logical reasons that faith in God is reasonable, then:

1) Go to the webiste rzim.org and list to the radio archives of Ravi Zacharias. He is a Christian apologist and has probably answered and discussed some of the questions you are trying to find the answer to.

2) Go to a Christian bookstore and get the two books written by Josh McDowell. He had researched and compiled the scientific and logical reasoning that supports the Christian faith in God and Jesus is true and is accurate. The name of his books are "Evidence That Demands a Verdict" Vol 1 & Vol 2.

Hope this helps. Your question is a deep one and deserves more than I can give you here.

Wait until you see a bright light and hear a booming voice in the sky that says it's Jesus.

Hey, that's a basic tenet of Christianity... it happened to the apostle Paul, and he was actively persecuting Christians at the time.

Seriously, if you really, really want to believe... then any small "sign" will convince you, that's what rationalization is for. If you can't accept blind faith (which all religion is based on) and have to wait for a concrete, irrefutable sign; then you're going to wait forever.

And despite what people say, no one knows what happens when we die.

You seek a mental confirmation when the experience of God occurs in your heart. Do you believe that anyone loves you? Surely you realized that you could not prove that to anyone else, because it is experiental information. That you believe that your parent or spouse loves you is something that you can not prove to anyone else, yet you believe it. How then is it that you look for a sign.

Jesus said concerning his generation, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah."

That sign friend, is a resurrected life.

I cant answer for everyone, most especially I can't answer for God. But, I know in my case I asked GOD in a prayer to reveal himself. I had doubts on certain parts of the bible. He sent me a friend who later became my "pastor" and his teachings directly addressed those doubts. That made me feel closer to God. Then, I asked for some very specific signs and I got them, albiet I was on the lookout for them. Is there a chance the "answers" were cooincidence. Possible, but it would be about the same chance as someone winning the lottery twice. The key for me, I didnt ask other people to tell me about God. I asked him to do it and I believed that he would and he did. Perhaps he answered me because of the sincerity of my request. Perhaps if you ask it may be a while before you know your answer. Its a spiritual journey, your answers may take a long time. They may never come as you expect them either. But, I believe your answer does come eventually - when you are ready/in God's time.

It's only blind faith to a degree. There is a bible.
No one owes you proof. The whole point of this is to have faith and know that God is there for you.
If you were given your so-called proof and assumed there were no God, what would change for you? Would you go out and be "bad."
I mean, seriously, what is the point of the proof?
You believe or you don't.

it our purpose to seek out God to find him. that's written in the word. dose not mean read the bible tell u do, look to us for him. close your eyes, kneel for 1 min, ask God in prayer do U live and what is your name. then wait..... U could find him right away, or maybe it might take a life time to find him, But he will come to u one day, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door will open, ask and receive. U just knocked, he will open the door to him.

if u truly r seeking him and u die searching let your mind rest, u can call God a liar. only if u truly seeked and did not find. but all I can say is U will find him before U die. so don't worry keep seeking maybe God does not want to be found yet, cuss he loves u searching for him.
