It's ultimately up to the technician, I have had technicians tell me things I didn't want to know and I've also come across some that mumor things to themselves and say nothing to me - I know that every technician has rules about what to disclose and what not to, in some situations it's best for the well educated to advise you what is going on, but I know for a fact that some technicians want to talk you through the process to make you feel more comfortable.
