We stopped telling children what jobs they were going to work and what women/men they shall marry a long time ago. WHY then do parent still tell children what religion to believe in. Why do religions have to brainwash children at such a young age, can't you allow them to reach the age of reason first?

Because the religiously motivated are cowardly and delusional. The minds of children are malleable, impressionable, and weak. You could tell a child anything and they would believe you, especially if you are their guardian. Religion is no stranger to this reality. They get them while they're young just as McDonald's markets to children to ensure life-long customers. It's psychological conditioning, and worse, it's intellectual rape. You are jeopardizing the fullness of your child's life by infusing within them fairytales. But, most parents wouldn't willingly and knowingly condemn their children to a listless life of moronic religious adherence. The problem is, most parents believe the particular religion they indoctrinate their young with. Many of these religions carry very serious implications when you examine them, especially for the young and helpless. This is not only a life and death matter, it is a life-after death matter. We're talking about a child's "eternal soul." The delusion parents rape the minds of their children to protect from a boogieman, and children constantly suffer for it. The fear of eternal hell fire. The fear of never seeing their Hindu, atheist, or Muslim friends (if the parents ever allow such heathens to communicate with their angel) in heaven. The fear of not obeying the god they were prescribed to. As Richard Dawkins said, "There is no such thing as a Christian child." There is merely a child whose parents happen to be Christian. A child can not even begin to contemplate the complexities and absurdities of religiosity. It is an unforgivable and detestable disservice to ever impose on a child a religious foundation. We should teach our children to think, not to be afraid of thinking.

Raising a child the way you think is best is a part of parenting. If you can not understand that, then you are too hung up on being an atheist. You don't like people knocking on your door, but you're willing to stick your nose right into someone else's family life.

Your home is void of anything religious, and reflects an atheist lifestyle, if there is such a thing. Isn't it brainwashing a child to bring them up in such an atmosphere? Since you are such a liberal thinker, your home should project all religions, and all philosophies, as well as atheism. That way your child would not be brainwashed and could choose for himself / herself.

Because parents are smart enough to know that children don't listen anymore when they "reach the age of reason" By then children think they already know it all.

The bible tells us to raise our children in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it. The religious people are not converted, they are religious. Jesus rebuked the religious. Christians who are growing spiritually hear the voice of the father. Jehavah God-the father.

That's a tough one. These people honestly think that what they believe in is the truth ...the ONLY truth ...and being responsible parents, they think it their duty to "save" their kids. I say educate the parents & the world will be a better place!

Proverbs 22:6

Train [a] a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it.

i know parents stop telling their child when and who to marry, but look at the family values and the divorce rate now, maybe parents should keep telling their kids when and who to marry.

I was born to a Christian family but my parents did not brainwash me. I wish they talked more about God to me.

I walked away from my childhood faith, but Jesus knocked my heart's door. I realized that the handle was inside, when I opened that door I asked Holy Spirit to guide me. Since then things have been critically different for me. : )

A parent will pass down many traditions to their children. Their beliefs are one of those traditions. We feel it's a great thing for our kids. If my children choose a different path in their adult life, so be it. (PS! we allow our kids to question things too!)

parents do not allow their children to think for themselves, they fear they may go in a unpleasant direction, whatever that may be, so they impose a belief which they probably dont devote themselves to, for a hope of good discipline and positive outlook.
