I'm about 50/50 on that subject. I don't feel, and have never felt, lonely. Part of me likes the absence of responsibility and obligation. The other half would love the interaction and having a soul-mate.
I've always felt this way about relationships. Lonely? get a dog. Horny, go to Honkey-tonk ladies.
For a soul-mate, ah, that is hard work and making yourself vulnerable to a stranger. I know it is a natural thing. But, I've seen too many of my friends go through a divorce and turn into raving lunatics at each others throats. I could not, and would not, protect myself from the person that was my soul-mate.
So the prudent course of action is to excuse myself from the situation, all together. And, I have.

I've been single my whole life, and for that I say it sucks. Maybe if I was in a few sucky relationships and was now single, it'd be nice. But to have not been loved for all this time, being single is easily the worst thing in the world. Hell, war is better.

I'm single and all I see are couples. When I had a girlfriend, all my friends were just breaking up. It sucks now because my last girlfriend tore out my guts and made me watch her grind them in a blender while her friends (practically the whole school) laughed at me. It ended badly so now it sucks even more. If it ends on good terms, it's not so bad.

Every person lives their life according to their own needs and situation. To say that a person who doesn't end up with a life partner is doomed to misery and loneliness is only comparing things by their own standards and opinions. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, is false. I'm single and I'm completely happy. I see different women in my life (not one-nighters) and we all are fine with that. No commitments or jealousy. Then there are those friends of mine, who are married, happy, and God bless them. Not everybodys goals and ideals will be the same. Worry about your own relationship and not be judgmental about anothers because it doesn't meet your standards.

You have to be happy with yourself!!! Sure its nice to have a significant other to share special moments with, but being single is great too!!!! You really don't have anyone to answer to.
