first he must have a reason to apply for a visa like a job, fiance, spouse, or immediate family. either way he must be sponsored by a us citizen. it is very complicated and loooong. if he can find a company here to sponsor him that's great but its hard to find one, most companies do not support this. he can get engaged or married but even then it is not guaranteed that he will be accepted for a visa. if he does miraculously get a visa then he will need to apply for residence and find a job, then after years he may be able to get full citizenship. good luck I'm goin through the same with my fiance, he is Italian. the system is so tough now, i hope for change soon. tell your friend to visit www.uscis.gov he can find all the details there.

The first step is that your friend has to be a permanent resident. The way to do that is for a citizen to "file" for him or her. The process can be lengthy depending on who the filer is. When this process goes through, the person will become get a SSN and a green card. After obtaining all this, the person then can file to become a citizen. All the forms and info can be found at www.uscis.gov.

check out uscis.gov

He has to start with residency before becoming a citizen, though.
