I never had allergies until last year. I started suffering this week again and I can"t stop sneezing even with Claritin and Benydryl. What can I do? My nose is raw.

You might want to check for allergy triggers in your home. You may have developed a sensitivity to something that triggers an allergic reaction. There are many potential allergy triggers that also impact asthma sufferers.

You could have go to an allergist and attempt to identify what you're allergic to then remove that if possible from your daily routine.
Or think through your life and consider anything that may have changed or is different. More mold in your home, etc.

Hi there!

We are in the same boat! I never had allergies either until last spring when I was finally diagnosed at 26. I found Claritin did nothing for me, and Benedryl only puts me to sleep.

I finally broke down and saw my doctor who gave me Nasonex and Allegra for my symptoms. They have done wonders for me!! Like you, I started up again the past week, and as soon as I took the Allegra, I felt much better.

Antihistamines are a strange class of drugs. What works for many people will not work for the same amount. Ask your doctor about prescriptions meds to get you through the season.

Some examples: Allegra, Clarinex, Zyrtec, Nasonex, Flonase, and Singulair.

Good luck!

The only way to find out if it's truly allergies and not just a cold is to go to the doctor and get allergy tested. It's not a big deal - just a bunch of small pricks on your skin to see what you react to. If Claritin isn't working, you may be immune to it (especially if you've taken it for a long time), Zyrtec works extremely well too. It's not uncommon for people to develop allergies as they get older.

I would see a doctor. Maybe you need a stronger allergy medicine than an over the counter drug. You may even need some allergy shots. For now, try to stay away from anything you think may be triggering your allergies, such as pets, flowers or bedding.

sometimes it is hard to figure if it is a cold or allergies. benydryl should work no matter what. But I found the only allergy med that worked for me and my daughter and mother is allegra. get a tube of vasaline lip therapy to put under your nose to sooth it. the texture is finer then regular vasaline.

Hm, well. I have really bad allergies too. And without medication, I'd never live. I'm on Zyrtec (if that's how you spell it). It's a prescription but it works. Also, if you try regulary taking a really good vitamin supplement, you won't even need the medicine.

You may also need a nasal spray. I take Flonase, and it helps me considerably. (I had a horrible itching at the back of my throat.) Also, when, you come into the house at the end of your day, immediately take off your clothes and take a shower, the idea is to get the pollen and any other allergens you may have picked up off of your body. Keep your home vacuumed often to cut down on dust, wash your bedclothes in hot water once a week to cut down on dust mites. Hope you feel better!

Try Allegra. There are many meds to try. Keep your nasal passages moist with a nose spray made for moisture - not the nose sprays made to open air way.

If it's as bad as you say you should see an allergist. He will give you tests to see what you are allergic to. You probably will need to take prescription medicine if your allergies are bad and maybe take shots for it.

You need to get rid of whatever it is that you are allergic to, or stop exposing yourself to it. If it's that bad, talk to your doctor about allergy shots.
