They can indeed. This where the saying of "Hives and Seek" comes from.

Hives are a symptom - you're allergic to something. They will keep coming back if you don't find out what you're allergic to. In the meantime, you can take small doses of Benadryl (say, 25 mg. at night) to help with the itching. If you have a hangover when you wake up from the Benadryl, stop taking it. There are lotions and ointments for hives as well, but the real solution is to find out what you're allergic to and then avoid it. This can be a long process, but don't lose hope.

They can. I've had hives about four different times in my life. Each time, the cause wasn't clear (except the last time). They usually started on my hands, and then spread over my whole body, and then eventually fading away like nothing happened. The last time, I had a sever reaction to some body wash, and I developed hives that kept disappearing and reappearing for days. I used Benadryl for a while in vain before I finally went to a doctor. They prescribed me some steroids, and that night (after I took the first dose) my hives got immensely worse, but then finally faded away as the days went on.
If you know the casue of your hives, avoiding the cause will help to stop them from coming back. They can come from a skin or food allergy, being over heated, or any number of things. One of the times when I had hives, it started because my hands were really really cold and stiff from being outside, so I ran them under warm water (bad idea). My fingers got swollen, and from there hives spread over my whole body.

They can, but it depends on the catalyst. If you get hives because you are stressed then you will probably always get hives when you are under a lot of stress. If it's an allergy then you can figure out what's causing it by getting an allergy test at the hospital.

Yes. Especially if you are allergic to something you are staying in contact with or medicine you have taken and are allergic to. You will notice that hives return with heat too.
