This is not an absolute answer, but more a source to look at when approaching this question. The Swiss philosopher Rousseau in his works "Discourse on the Origin of Inequality" and "On the Social Contract" links the origin of civil society back to when mankind gained the idea of property, basically when we decided to own land and objects. He credits this event with creation of human society, thus this may be when man decided he could control the planet. Hope this helps in some way.

Well, I can't vouch they 'decide they control the planet', but I do know it doesn't belong to them.
Also, this I know--- God will destroy 'them' that destroy the earth.
And soon, the meek gets the earth in a paradiac peaceful condition.
Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Psa 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Rev 11:18 And the nations were wroth, and thy wrath came, and the time of the dead to be judged, and the time to give their reward to thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to them that fear thy name, the small and the great; and to destroy them that destroy the earth.

Not to offend anyone, but I think Katrina reminded us that the earth controls itself. We are just guests here.

Concerning the answer about being at the top of the food chain. Let someone drop you off on the savannahs of Africa or the Everglades, and you will see we are not at the top of the food chain. We just have effectively removed ourselves from the food chain.

we dont, God controls us, and we "control" the planet, but really it goes back to God controlling it. everything that is going on is in His plan. God works in mysterious ways.
