IT can actually go both ways. Yes you are binging and throwing up everything by forcing your body to do so, but in the process, you are also dehydrating yourself and your body thinks it needs to retain water because of it, so you could actually gain by doing it. If you want to lose weight, they best and most permanent way is to do something like Weight Watchers. It allows you to eat what you want, it just proportioned so that your body is tricked into losing weight. If you cannot join a class, you can get the books on ebay and just follow the point system in there. I promise you, it really does work.

I hope you're not asking this because you are considering doing it. I myself was bulimic for 5 years. I only stopped because I went away to school and no longer had a place to purge. The whole weight issue will stay with you for the rest of your life even if you don't act upon an eating disorder. You never get your life back.

In answer to your question though. Yes, you do lose weight. Someone above posted that you lose weight slower than if you didn't purge. That's a lie. I know because I speak from experience. I went from 183 pounds to 139 pounds in just a year. Still, I suggest you DON'T EVER try throwing up your food. EVER! It will kill you mentally and emotionally, and you will never be back to the way you were.

it can cause you to lose weight but it takes a very long time and it is not very good for your body, same with not eating. If you want to lose weight try to eating healthier and work out more. I had an eating disorder last year and i have gotten over it but trust me to dont want to fall into one

Many people who are bulimic are still overweight. It does not tend to make you gain weight, but it is extremely harsh on your body. It causes all kinds of problems, including cancer. Many of the problems include vitamin deficiencies, tooth decay, heart problems, as well as others. It is dangerous. Just eat a healthy well-balanced diet, stay active, and drink lots of water.

it will help you loose weight. however bulimia usually maintains the weight you are currently at rather than losing or gaining.

Hi Serenity, please...for the rest of your life...remember this:
The word is "lose" spelled l-o-s-e when used like you did in your question...

This would be correct...
"Does bulimia actually cause you to lose weight?"

l-o-o-s-e means something entirely different:
e.g. not bound together: to wear one's hair loose.
not firm, taut, or rigid: a loose tooth.

Try and avoid being part of the group of loosers...er...losers that keep misspelling that word.

Thanks

Depends on the situation, when you are bulimuc you overeat but throw up everything, so I'm assuming loose?

it DOES make you lose weight.
but what people don't relaize is,
it actually makes you lose weight slower than what you would lose if you were not bulimic.

it is very bad for your stomach to.
