My local Irish Pub calls a half Guinness half Blue Moon a black & blue but other bars haven't heard of it. Is this a name they made up or have other people heard of it too? I like Guinness & Harp too, but this one is my favorite combo. Is there another name that is more common?

Black and Blue is a common name for a Guinness/Blue Moon. Makes sense doesn't it? It's not a stupid drink to order. I really like wheat beers and I really like smooth stouts. It's the best of both worlds.

I think the best black & tan is a Murphy's/Smithwick's. Try it someday.

I have heard it referred to as a black and blue before, but a lot of times those names are just kind of a house name. at the pub i work at we call different beers with guinness floats all kinds of different names. we use the name black and blue too, but it is a blueberry wheat ale with a guinness float. if you know a bar has both, just ask for blue moon with a guinness float.
