i'm a new bass fisherman and im just wondering what color lures do you use in certain fishing conditions. I could've sworn i read that you use light colored lures in dark water, and realistic looking lures in clear water. if this is so, when do you use dark colored lures?

thanks for the help

Here's the general rule.

Clear water - Use natural color baits, browns and blacks for soft plastics. White and black work good for spinnerbait and chatterbait skirts. Use willow leaf blades for the spinnerbait as they produce more flash. Use natural colored crankbaits. Silver & Black, Gold & Black, Brown, Fire tiger to simulate yellow perch and bream. Matching the color of the bottom somewhat also works well for soft plastics.

Stained or murky water - Go with more vibrant colors in your lure selection. When using spinnerbaits use brighter colored skirts and indiana or colorado blades because they produce more vibration. Choose soft plastics with some florescent colors.

Muddy water - Black is the most visible color in muddy water. Choose black soft plastics. Use crankbaits that produce alot of noise and a wide wobble. Use spinnerbaits with black skirts and large colorado blades.

The color of the lure mainly depends on two things, season and water conditions. In the early spring you want to use the light colors like white, bright green, and red. In the summer you use the semi dark lures. In the fall i have found that i have to experiment every day can be different. As for the water conditions if its a murky/dirty water stear clear of the darker colors this is because they will blend in easily, if you find that all you have is the dark color in the lure you are trying you can catch fish with it because of the vibrations in the water you need to have a very good presentaition to do this.

Even a better way to decide what lure to use and win. Look at the weather, is it cold? Hot? What about the water temp? All of these come into affect when Bass fishing, use light colors if the weather is nice and clear and if it's real cloudy go with ya darky colors.

Your best lures when Bass fishing though is gonna be your plastic worms and spinner baits.

That's true what you are saying. Dark color lures in clearer water also. And bright colors, like chartreuse, can be used in muddy or stained water. Also, add some sound (rattles, blades, etc.) in dark waters because bass can't see as well but have a keen sense of hearing.

Use dark colored lures at night or in low light conditions.

I have found that dark lures work best on hot sunny days in deep clear water (water that is almost clear). the light ones work in dark murky water or rainy days. And natural lookong lures work in all types of water and weather.

Dark lures work good in murky and cloudy conditions. I know it sounds weird but try looking at objects in low light conditions, the brightest colors are hardest to see.

as the last guy said
match the hatch
it is often said
the fishermen care more about the color than the fish do
best way to decide os try many
and keep trying what ends up working
