Tithing means one tenth. It's a commandment from Biblical times, most religions have some form of tithing. Some churches pass around a collection plate, do you question that practice as well?

The leaders of the Mormon church are not paid, as are most other pastors, priests, and clergymen. It's all voluntary. The tithing money paid goes to building churches and Temples, and does not pay anyone's wages. The missionaries you have seen pay their own way! They go out for 2 years, wherever they are sent, leave college, don't date girls, only get to call home 4 times in those 2 years though they write or email weekly - it's a great sacrifice. Tithing does not pay for them either. Lots of volunteer work and charitable donations to groups that are not Mormon goes on. The Mormons are probably the most giving people you will find. Just as virtue is it's own reward, paying tithing gives back blessings that you can't measure on a leger. When you do something nice for someone else, you know that good feeling you get inside? It's like that.

Scripturally speaking, tithing is a command from God. There is no specific point where he says "give me 10 percent of everything", but if you read the Bible you will see that this was an expectation from God's people, to help his priests and his Church survive. Then again I have to ask you, as a Mormon have you read the Bible?

God gives us everything and all He asks in return is 10% of what he gives us. It pays for church buildings, temples, Bibles, Hymn books, support of needy members and non-members, millions and millions go to feed the hungry and give aid during disasters. There is a perpetual education fund also(this gives money to people in third world countries who need money to become educated[not religiously]). I don't know all that it is used for, but I do know none of it goes for personal gain.
The LDS faith is one of the very few modern Christian churches who don't have paid clergy, paid preachers etc

It is a commandment. Malachi 3:8-10 ..will a man rob God?...

Tithe- means tenth-10%

I have been blessed so incredibly by tithing. I recently broke my ankle and I didn't have insurance and I had just moved to VA from MA so I didn't have a job. The church is helping me pay for the care I need. This is just one of the many temporal/financial blessings I've had recently. It's even a greater blessing to willingly give to the Lord and to know it goes to further His cause and help people all over the world.

God gave us everything we have, including life. If we are able to work and get gain, it's because of Him. Early tithing wasn't money, it was whatever you had; lifestock, grains, whatever. Ten percent.

If you give God back ten percent, when He has given you 100%, you will be blessed. Different ways for different people, but you will be blessed.

God always asks us for sacrifice. One day, He may ask everything from you. If you aren't willing to give a mere 10%, how will you ever give Him 100% if He asks for it?

God did not create...what? Um, God created everything and everyone, everything you have and everything I have, came from Him. He has given us 100% of what we have...how can we not give back 10% of that? It is a commandment to give 10% of our "increase"...sometimes I think it is more a test of obedience than anything. Our tithing helps fund the building of churches and temples, ward, stake and area functions and many other things. I pay it because the Lord wants me to and in return He promises blessings, blessings which I have received time and time again.
I have a very strong testimony of tithing and know that when we pay it in faith and obedience, the Lord will truly bless us with all the things we need - it is said in the scriptures the "windows of heaven will pour out blessings in such abundance that we will not have room enough to receive them" and it has truly happened for me.

Tithing is not limited to Mormons. It was originally a way to sustain the priesthood of Israel as described in the Old Testament. Below are links to some Bible verses on the subject.

As for your last (added) statement: All things are created by God.

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (Malachi 3:10).

I've always paid tithing and I've been blessed for it.

It helps pay towards churches and temples. And it's not mandatory.
