People so much like to criticize the Bible, without ever having read more than a chapter here and there, and even that with a totally closed mind. Imagine if you actually read Jesus teaching's and applied them to your life; you would realize that the word's of Jesus and the power of the Bible when applied to your life, goes far beyond that of the wisdom of man. If you guys want to just keep being the blind leading the blind, then fine; just don't blame God when you walk into that ditch...

And because I already see it coming, my point is that you ask these questions and do not understand the Bible because you won't allow yourself to. It is not God's word because over 40 different authors collaborated over thousands of years to perpetuate the worlds greatest hoax, but because it shows God's relationship with humanity, and his amazing love for us. It is history people, and more and more lately, science, archaelogy, and history prove it to be more and more reliable.

Hey, did I say a word about asking questions, or having doubts? No. I said Bible-bashing, which is generally due to ignorance and misinformation. Not that I didn't expect criticism here...

Or... science, archeology, and history are disproving more and more of it. I'm sorry, but intellectualism and religion are contending concepts.

I attended Christian schools for 16 years, went to church every week until I was 22. Trust me, I know the bible pretty well. When I started having questions and asked a number of pastors and religion teachers, the only answer they could give me in the end was "take it on faith."

This is blind faith, which means you have no better reason to believe what you do than that you really, really want to. No better reason to be a Christian over a Hindu. This is not an intellectual stance. It is self deception.

Actually, it's been quite the opposite in terms of science, archeology & history. A person demanding "intellectual prequisites" may be asked a few question, for example:
How old is the earth? Has the sun ever orbited the earth? Why is there no record of the Jews' captivity in Egypt?

And working backward from there, does "great love" mean you can drown innocent children and pregnant women? Can you kill off the first born of a whole nation with "great love?" Can you "lovingly" order the massacre of ALL the people in various neighboring tribes - again, including women children and even the livestock? "Amazing love" indeed!

It doesn't have to be a "hoax," it condemns itself. Why do you think that even main-stream religions go to great lengths to make sure we understand that it has to be "interpreted" and not taken literally?

Have you forgotten about those who believe in the Bible without ever having read more than a chapter of it? I have certainly read more of the Bible than many Christians on here and I think you make a nice point in your second paragraph - I just do not believe as you do, especially because all those different authors seemed to associate God with violence and hatred. I must ask - if you know 40 different authors wrote it, how can you believe that each one wasn't being untruthful in telling his side of the story?

Ah, well. Peace. Goodnight.

Do you understand that intelligence is largely subjective and can take many forms? What an awful site this would be if it were to exclude people on the basis of 'intelligence', or anything else, for that matter. I don't know about you, but I come here to be educated about the views of my fellow man, whether I agree with them or not. I don't come here thinking I know it all already.

I think the beauty of this site is that anybody can express anything they want: this site is a great leveller, where freedom of speech reigns true. To suggest that this freedom should be removed from a certain group of people, to suggest that they should be silenced because their views are less valid somehow, is fascist and abhorrent.

See, you were doing so well

"It is history people, and more and more lately, science, archaelogy, and history prove it to be more and more reliable."

and then you threw it all away.

Please, I saw some of your other answers. Science does not "point more and more to god". In fact, the more we learn the more we can say the bible is, well, origin myth and embellished tales. The genesis story, the origin of man, the flood story, the list is long.

Lot's of people who want power will perpetuate superstitions, in order to gain power or hold power. You talk of the bible referring to the Christian superstition but there are many "bibles" or holy books out there that Christians reject. What makes Christians think theirs' is right and the others wrong. Those of us who reject religions(superstitions) do so in many instances because of plain and simple common sense. Our minds just won't or can't accept that an invisible man in the sky is responsible for our lives and afterlives, that he sees all and is aware of what every individual and their lives and can grant eternal salvation. This just makes no more sense than stepping on cracks breaking mothers back, or walking under ladders being bad luck.

Superstition is just wrong, and you actually know this because you've rejected all the other superstitions (religions) in favour or just one. And in my opinion it is also wrong.

There should be a prerequisite to weed out self-satisfied people who think they know what everyone has read or thinks. You can prove or disprove just about anything that is subjective. However, it comes down to a matter of personal faith, and criticism really doesn't go over too well.

You might be surprised about where God's word comes from or just how much of the bible story is supported by science(remarkably little)

Have you ever thought that maybe some of us actually have read the bible and understand it very clearly.

Then how would the unfaithful learn about faith?
The Chinese have a saying,
"To ask a question is but a moment of shame, not to ask is a lifetime of ignorance!.

If someone was actually trying to find a legitimate answer - they'd be in hard luck here...
