I would like to purchase a show quality puppy(boxer) and achieve champion status. I know that they must recieve a certain amount of points, but......during a certain time frame? bigger shows equals more points? On average how many points do you recieve at each show? On average, how many shows does it take? On average what are some of the costs for entering, training, and showing your dog?
It seems EVERY kennel has a champion or two. Of course this makes sense for breeding purposes, but I just dont understand. Are these shows region specific and boxers do not compete with boxers in another part of the country?

HELP!!!!!

Forgot to mention that I know the boxer breed. I had one that died of cardiomyopathy......and he was from a double champion litter. I know where to get one......like I said, everyone has a champion or two....but I dont understand the process of getting there

But thanks for that first answer...it was helpful.

you just have a lot to learn about boxers. you need to study the breed specifics and look at a WHOLE LOT of boxers. that way you can tell a fault when you see one. i don't show or anything. i don't know the specs on a boxer. but i know poodles. i'm a groomer so i see lots of them. by readind the specs in AKC and watching dog shows, i know a good poodle when i see one. i have 2 so i compare. and mine are not perfect.
so you need to attend shows, local, national, etc. and meet all the boxers you can and the breeders, and the handlers.
then you can find that perfect puppy when it comes. when a dog has a litter, there may not be ANY good ones, even if it's from champion status. i know this too well from a standard schnauzer client of mine. he bought a dog just because it was the grandson of a Grand Champion. Paid big bucks. showed it for a year. got a few credits etc, but nobody wanted the fruit of his loins. so he neutered him and made him just a pet. expensive adventure. he just didn't know what to look for.

A dog has to get 15 points to be a champion. If you have a good dog you can become a champion in a weekend but usually it takes much longer. Usually an entry fee is $30. The number of points depends on the number of other Boxers entered in that show. The most points that one dog can win in one show is 5.

"Championship points can be won by one dog and one bltch in each breed. The Winners dog and Winners bltch receive these points. The number of points depends on the number of each sex competing in each breed. When a dog receives 15 points it is a Champion and holds the title for life. A minimum of at 6 points must be earned from Majors (3 point show or larger) and cannot be awarded by the same judge."

Clear as mud,,, huh

Check out the breed standard as well. Plus get your breeder to help you pick out a good show quality pup. He/She will be better equipped to break the pup down for you and point out its faults and qualities. Good luck!
