94 celica trunk latch broken? how do i check it?

when i try to pop the trunk open from inside the car... the lever doesnt work... im thinkin its da cables or sumthin.. how would i checc dat?

manually flip it shut put a screwdriver in the slot and turn the reliece it should pop open lube it up with your fav oil ie wd40

ummm... If you shut it and it pops back open. The latch is broken.
