My cat keeps periodicly throwing up I've taken it to the vet, they say it's normal, then it's hungry again

After it throws up, it meows like crazy until i eithre feed it or let it outside...ALSO IT'S REALLY GROSS WHEN IT THROWS UP.I SMELLS BAD TOO!

Is it a long haired cat (hairball)? Have you tried changing foods (possibly allergy related)? Have you had your vet do xrays and bloodwork to rule out any medical causes?

I took in a cat a few years ago because its owner was going to take it to the shelter otherwise. She threw up every day when I first got her. I put her on Hairball Remedy and that decreased to about once a week. Then I put her on the Indoor Cat formula from Purina and it only happened once a month or sometimes every other month and when she did throw up, it was only a very small amount. Not like before when she threw up big piles of food and hair. It's frustrating, I know, when your cat is having hairball problems, but there are products and food available that really help. It's no fun for your cat either. They're much happier when the hairballs are under control.

I have a cat who eats only dry food and she throws up several times a week even on "high quality" cat food. My three boy cats eat only canned meat and a raw diet I prepare and they NEVER throw up.

It is not 'normal" for a cat, dog or human to throw up their food!!!!! Vets feed their pets Science Diet which is a poor quality food so they are accepting this as normal.

The constant regurgitation of food from the stomach, up the esophagus can damage the esophagus from the acidic digestive juices in the stomach.

"Sensitive stomach" products made by the major cat food manufacturers are made with by-product meat and grains that the cat's system is not designed to handle. No wonder it comes back up.

All the hairball treatments and special foods are just treating symptoms that poor food creates and not getting at the root of the problem.

I had a cat that threw up constantly. I fed her standard grocery store cat food. Problem is, it's got lots of junk cats don't need. They are carnivores by nature and do not need the carbohydrates and additives like coloring that most of those cat foods have. Sadly, she died when her pancreas gave out. I feed the cat I have now Wellness cat food and there is such a big difference. Try changing your cat's diet to something more natural and see if that help.

Your kitty may have a sensitive stomach. There are many cat foods out in the market formulated for sensitive stomachs. Here are a few that are reputedly very good:

Why not try one of these and see if it will solve your cat's prolem. Buy only a little until you find the brand your cat can tolerate. Make sure that kitty is drinking enough fresh water since it looks like she'll have to be on a dry food diet.

What is the cat eating? If it's dry food and the cat eats too fast that will make him throw up. I had a cat that used to do that so I put some small rocks in his food bowl. The cat had to take his time to move the rocks around so he ate slower and kept everything down.

My Maine Coon, who will be 2 yrs this June, 2007, also throws up. But, he only throws up dry food. I leave him plenty of water. I give him canned food at least 2x daily, which he prefers, but it is quite costly because he will only eat a certain brand name canned food. I am getting fed up (pardon the pun) because I want to replace my carpeting and it isn't possible with the situation. He is also ALWAYS hungry.

I have the same problem with him throwing up and then crying because he is hungry again. It is quite unnerving.

find a new vet, throwing up is not a normal sign. I just found out my cat has a form of acid reflux. just don't let your cat outside, no good ever comes from that.

I am certainly not saying this is the case, but my cat does that too when he has a hairball. Does the vomit have hair in it? Do you give him/her hairball treatment? Ask your vet for more info if you think this applies!
