yes. I was in high school choir at the time, and the chorus master was an old bitter man (he never achieved his dream of going pro). I felt bad for quite a long time about it, but I stuck to my convictions and kept at it. It was almost impossible to think I couldn't sing. That sort of remark, no matter what hobby or subject matter it pertains to, is hateful, hurtful, and downright evil.
to restore your confidence, why not take singing lessons and find out from a professional? It could be that yes, you can sing, but no, you're not doing it quite right. They can help you there.
Best wishes and keep on singing

Yes, my husband told me years ago that I couldn't sing that well. I let him stop me from doing something I loved and was good at. Now I regret listening to him. I think he was just trying to take my attention off of singing and put it back on him. Now if I sing, he tells me it's good. But it's too late for me now. I'm never going to really trust my own voice again. Don't let anyone else tell you not to do something you love.

yes, when you try to sing in language other than your native language. ..it sound awful and back words more worse when you don't know the words try to guess and think of your self yeah.., I am riding with the mainstream wave.. .. others say .. just shut up.. anyway singing in any language or music genres is fun and artistic way. Go for it

Yes i do, its a little embarrasing, i also know of a girl who was in the choir at school then told that she "was not an asset to the choir and was drowning the other voices out" then was asked to leave!

A girl once told me I had a nice voice when I didn't think I did -- pretty much the opposite of what you're looking for though...
