I bought my toy poodloe March 9. He was very playful and ate and drank water all day. The women daughter whom i got the poodle from gave me the wrong name of food. Sunday he stop eating the food i bought and i called the lady and she gave me the correct food. I bought it Monday and he has almost completely stop eating. Today he's just been laying around. Does this mean something is wrong? Do i need to take him to the vet? Is he home sick or what?

If the puppy is lethargic and not eating you should definitely take him to the vet that is not normal for a puppy especially since you have had him for a week, he has had some time to adjust to you and your home.

My dog went through a similar problem as a puppy. I got him from a shelter & they told me a brand of food they used & even provided a small bag of it. he got very sick. He would eat very little but his stoole was very loose. The vet had us put him on a chicken & rice diet for a month (1part warm boiled chicken & 2 parts warm white rice ) after that we started introducing him slowly to his new diet. If he doesn't eat that it may not be an upset diet. I would suggest giving your local animal shelter a call. Most of the time they will provide advice & you can also seek treatment there at a more reasonable cost. Good Luck

It could definitely be a sign of illness, possibly related to the food, but also possibly one of many other things puppies get. If he hasnt been eating you need to see a vet, puppies (especially the small breeds) can become hypoglycemic very quickly if they are not eating, which could lead to seizures and other more severe problems. You also need make sure he is not dehydrated if he has not been drinking.

Switching foods quickly can cause some stomach problems. If changing food, you should mix the old and new for a week or so..not serious...BUT I do not think this is your dog's problem. When a dog just lays and does not eat, you need to get to the vet ASAP.

Go to the vet! He's sick. He's probably alergic to something in that food. He could die if he doesn't eat. Try to give him treats that are really good for your dog. Most dogs like wet food.

if he's a young puppy changing food on him could make his stomach upset. Since you switched the pet food on him try giving him a small mixture of both. If you see no improvements take him to the vet
