Atlas is way more insightful, probably because he is a boxing trainer and not a journalist like Merchant. Merchant never says anything useful during the fight, and always ends the broadcast by saying something like: in 1954, when I was writing in Pittsburgh, an old man told me that life is like a box of chocolate, well today we ate chocolate.

Teddy by a long shot. Teddy talks out of experience Larry talks out of his a**. Why is it when Larry calls a fight he thinks he knows everything and calls a different fight than what you're saying. The guy doesn't know the difference between a left jab and a left hook. He makes comments of which are totally without merit. I amazed he' even a boxing commentator because he doesn't know any thing about the sport. If he is commentating a fight I'm watching I just turn down my volume. Teddy has been there I think that's what makes him so good. He's been a fighter, trainer and manager of some of the best fighters in the world. He is very well schooled and he can show and tell of a fighter diffencies and strengths before they even get in the ring, Marchant can't do that because he's a moron with a big mouth.

Teddy Atlas is better in my opinion. You can tell he does his research on all of the fighters he talks about and whatever he says usually takes place in the fight. He's great at spotting fighters strong points and weaknesses, and small things that they do wrong that you can capitilize off of. Plus he's real, he doesnt sugar coat anything and he's not afraid to voice his opinion.

I remember one time on Friday night Fights it was Emanuel Augustus Vs. Courtney Burton and Augustus CLEARLY won the fight and the decision went to Burton. They read it as a Majority Decision when it was really a split decision and Teddy really chewed out the announcer and the judges. And there was a point in the fight when the referee took a point away from Augustus for spinning around during the fight, theres no rule against that and Teddy went up to the referee and asked him in front of the camera why he did it and the referee couldnt even answer any of his questions about it.

I like Larry Merchany - he doesn't seem to "hold" any punches in his commentaries, although, I did see him do some serious butt kissing in a recent fight with Miguel Coto.
