I wanted to do things my way.

To enjoy life.
To lead a simple happy life.

I used to be happy... just being me.
My earliest memories after that, are the fear, terror, pain as

Ministers yelled to the top of their lungs how dirty & horrid a sinner I was. GET SAVED!! GET SAVED!! YOUR A SINNER!! GET SAVED!! Ok, maybe, wait, whats this?

YOU WILL GO TO HELL IF YOU DON'T!

Why would he try to scare me like that?
I was afraid to move, think, live, die, school, work, Jesus might return any minute, how to "know" for sure I am saved, will I die before I can get married & have a life?

The fear, the terror, the depression, caused me to nearly commit suicide, in a panic, unable to cope with how awful I was told I am.

Being thought of as a dirty sinner, the likes of Adolf Hitler, though I had killed no-one, & I nearly died in panic.

Told I am so awful, figured why don't I go ahead & do all these crimes? I am so awful, I guess!

Religion destroyed my life.

Only getting rid of it saved me...

it has always been this way, long before christianity took over. all religions have to use fear to corral the people. be good or else!! quite frankly, i know some people that could totally use religion in their lives, they need someone to tell them what to do and not to do. i have an uncle from ireland. he says that america is far behind any other developed nation when it comes to religion. he says that christianity is slowly dying out, slowly, but it will go the way of the other major religions. No one believes in Zeus anymore, do they?

Q, Christians are not evil and don't want to convert the world to Christianity, I don't know how you come to this conclusion, you may have been right hundreds of years ago at the time of the crusades but now the Christian faith is probably one of the least oppressive religions there is.
I personally am a total non believer of any faith to me it is all utter rubbish and I find it difficult to understand how anyone can believe things that were established hundreds or thousands of years ago, surely we are not so gullible in these modern times. Humble S, you are better of without religion, just lead a good life, try not to do wrong to others, live by that code and be happy.
Chris.

It's awful what a little religion can do to the self-esteem. I'm sorry to hear you've been through so much suffering because of other people's beliefs. This is the kind of thing that makes me despise religion rather than just remain my happy-go-lucky agnostic-atheist self. There are many good Christians but the ones that force others to live in fear are ruining the psyches of children everywhere.

Yes religion can ruin your life, because you are following rules made by man. Yes, we are all sinners, no matter what sin we commit, but Christ saves us from our sin= If you are really following Christ, you will not be destroyed, You will have life and have it abundantly. You do not need a minister to yell at you, just ask the Holy Spirit to reveal His truth. If you truly come to Christ because of His love for you- you will not be destroyed. You will escape hell, but you will not live your life in fear, because perfect love casts out fear- Ask God to reveal Himself to you- find your identity in Him not a minister or anyone else, You can know that you are saved if you ask Christ to be your Savior and turn from your sin, But when I say that you do not have to live in fear, the Holy Spirit will help you live the life that pleases God- You will still sin, but you will choose to sin less and less, and Jesus will continually forgive you. DO NOT FEAR- God loves you

It wasn't the religion that depressed you, it was just as you said. You wanted to do things your way. You should be thankful that someone loved you enough to tell you about Christ. You were under convection of the Holy Spirit to feel that way. Being a Christian is the most peaceful, fulfillment, joy, happiness that you can have. It's a great feeling to trust the Lord, and know that He is with you. What really makes you feel bad is listening to some of these jerks on here.

What makes you think everyone who follows religion is depressed? Just because it didn't turn out well with you doesn't mean that everyone else is feeling condemned. But If you are happy being a atheist then good for you.

I do not follow any religion. I follow Jesus. We all fall short from the glory of God, some people fall harder. I know I need Jesus for my salvation, that is why I chose Him as my Lord and Savior. I love Him. I am happy to serve Him I want to be with Him here and after. : )

faith=opression+God EDIT I had a concepts fart as quickly as I study that question. i think of OPPRESSED ( which I observed as oppressive) cultures bypass to faith using fact they want desire of a extra clever destiny. That works for some people. For others, they might desire to work out effects. //_^

It will last as long as people continue to support it, People simply will not accept the truth, they only function on lies and manipulation, mankind truly is his own worst enemy, and deserves every thing he gets thrown at him, people have given away their common sense logic, and power to religions, and governments greed for money, power, and control.

Good luck with that...........

a good way to start not having to listen to us would be to stop hanging out on the religion board.
If you stay here, you'll hear stuff that you don't want to hear.

Would you like to hear about Jesus and what He can do for you?
