It's alright. Not anything to write home about. It's just a generic, chain "hotel". Why are you going there? There's nothing to do in Elmsford. The Hampton Inn isn't even walking distance to anything decent. Not even a TGIFridays or Starbucks. It's a busy road with a lot of office buildings on it - and some stripmalls with like a "Home Depot" and a "Staples", but unless this is a business trip - I'd pick somewhere other than Elmsford. Regardless of the purpose of your trip - because of the location in the suburbs, you're going to need to rent a car to get around. There is some public transportation, but, again, it's the suburbs, so it won't get you everywhere.

I had stayed there with my wife and daughter while they were doing some major renovations where I live (Bronx). It's pretty much like most Hampton Inns with an area for continental breakfast, Internet access, in this case an outdoor pool. It was a good stay.
Regarding things to do.....no, nothing going on in Elmsford but there IS nearby White Plains (if you don't have a car, the Westchester Bee-Line bus (Route 13) goes to White Plains along Tarrytown Road where there are MANY shopping malls (Galleria, The Westchester, White Plains City Center, Westchester Pavillion) along with restaurants along Mamaroneck Avenue. Or if you want to go the other way, you can go over the Tappan Zee Bridge to Rockland County and visit the Palisades Center (exit 12 - New York State Thruway).
Uhh...there IS a TGIFridays in Tarrytown (tucked in an office complex) and a very nice looking Starbucks on Main Street/Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains. And if I am not mistaken there is a nightclub at the nearby Marriott within walking distance.

Hey Tony - there's no need to be nasty. I think the point that FW was trying to make is that there is nothing within WALKING DISTANCE from the Hampton Inn. Which is 100% accurate.
The Marriot is NOT walking distance unless you want to risk your life walking on a major roadway under Interstate 287!!! In fact, if the police catch you walking on Tarrytown Road, and it's not because your car broke down, they will give you a ticket because people have really gotten killed on that road. And I mean Killed On Impact, Killed. Not hit and later died at the hospital, (although, that was the tragic case in some circumstances) I mean hit by car with NO chance of surviving, killed. Its a hazardous intersection enough when you are in a car - with all those cars coming off the highway down a short ramp, at 60-70 MPH trying to merge onto Tarrytown Road, which has people speeding along at that "T" intersection - there's no way anyone who values their life should be walking on that road, much less crossing that intersetion - which someone would have to do to get from the Hampton Inn to the Marriot!!! Just Tarrytown Road alone is a death wish that no one should be walking on. Not even to go across the street from the Hampton Inn to the gas station to get cigarettes. I can't believe that you would even suggest something like that!!! I guess you think children playing with unlocked, loaded guns is safe too? Maybe a short stroll to the airport from the Jackie Robinson Parkway across the Van Wyck Expressway is "safe walking distance" as well. End of discussion.
As for your snide comment about there being a Starbucks in White Planes..... Hello! White Plains is 15 - 20 minutes away by car, sometimes longer, depending on what is happening on I287 (Traffic? Construction? 287 is extremely unpredicable) Even longer if you attempt to drive all the way down Tarrytown Road with all those traffic lights and congestion that can easily take over an hour. Easily. That's an awfully long way to go for a cup of coffee.
That TGIFridays in Tarrytown is no where close to the Hampton Inn - again, you'd need a car to go 1 - 2 exits over to get to - there's no way to walk to the Tallyrand Office complex where TGIFridays is located. Hypothecally, if you were to walk - you'd have to walk to that deadly intersection I mentioned above, and if you survive, walk on I-287 for a couple of miles, and then risk your life on anther roadway that's no better than Tarrytown Road. Realistically, there is no way someone from out of town would be able to get to it without a car. Its in the Tallyrand Office Complex parking lot and not that easy to find. Believe me, I live in the area and got lost looking for the Tallyrand Office Complex when I was going for a job interview.
Only "some" of your information was ok, about the buses, but the rest of your information is very misleading to someone who is not familiar with the area. Why are you giving such reckless information? None of the places you mention is that close or convienant to get to from the Hampton Inn even WITH a car. The Tappen Zee bridge is 3 exits away and a hazardous merge from I-287 to I-87 with all that new construction they have going on. And you forgot to mention it is an $8 toll now! Also, as you would say: "Ugggh Hello?!" the Palisades Mall is an $8 toll and 25 minute drive, hoarrible parking, over-crowded because it's the only mall in that area, and not that great of a mall. The "WestChester" and "Gallaria" are in White Plains, (by the way - gangs have pretty much taken over the "Galleria Mall", so I'd stay away from there. Everyday in the police blotter some kind of crime is happening there, a few weeks ago a woman was killed in the parking lot by someone who was just released from prison. Gee I wonder why - they are only across the street from the Criminal Court house and the police station)
Everyone goes to the "WestChester" now - which is VERY Expensive! So expensive it's got Valet Parking and can cost $15.00 for 2 hours of parking!!!! See, you have to warn people about these unexpected expenses when you recommend places otherwise you aren't being helpful.
The thing about White Plains is its very "ify". It was decent during the '80's then it went way, way, down hill all through the 90's and it's starting to 'come back' after all these efforts to knock down affordable housing and put up expensive condos - but gentrification isn't complete. So, you have areas of White Plains that are still equal to Harlem and Hamburger Hill back in the 1980's - some areas are still so bad the cops won't do routine patrols, the only go if there is an actual complaint.
If you don't really know the area, it's really reckless to anwer a question like this. Just because you stayed here for a couple of days or a week doesn't mean you "know" the area. I've lived her since 1982, so believe me - I KNOW this area!
I think FW's advice was more helpful. You will absolutely need a car if you are coming to this area. Next time you give informtion, you should be nicer about it. Being mean and nasty doesn't impress anyone! For that alone I hope you lose the 10 points for this question! If thats what it takes for you to be nicer.
