A lot of non-Americans see it as sort of an all-encompassing group that can be pinned against western ideals as a whole. Every country that has been shafted by western institutions (IMF, etc.) is looking at Islam as a means to react against such levers.
Frankly the most vocal anti-western voices being heard in the media these days are Islamic, and as a result, they are gaining a following not only of those in the Islamic world but outside of it too. Left-wing activists for instance, who constantly are ignored in the mainstream press for their dislike of big business are increasingly viewing Islam as a conduit to voice their dissatisfaction, this is why you are seeing many people convert to Islam throughout the western world.

I frigging hate it .. .then again I hate all organized religion. Any organized religion is the downfall of a true democracy and therefore the downfall of society as we know it. Religious leaders should remain exactly that .... religious leaders, NOT politicians! Although I don't believe in communism, I think China had it right when they banned religion ... they just went a bit to far.
NO RELIGION IS COOL, especially if it preaches hate and tries to influence Government! There's no room in this world for fundamentalists ... we need equilibrium!

Like most religions, parts of it are really cool and others are not. Unless you understand the attraction of a religion, you have probably not really understood it.

i am a muslim and verry proud of it and after reading wat these ignorent ppl wrote on here i laughed and believed many ppl dont really know the truth.. they just believe and listen 2 wat they want 2 hear and ignore videos and things that show how many jew and christinas kill 2 , so u cant jusdge some1 by their relaiogian cuz in every country and every reliegion thers the good adn the bad ppl

The muslims i saw, most are afraid of god, and are bookish( read quran and do whatever written in it ).They wear some caps, and hate other faiths.
