How does Microsoft identify the fact that I have it installed on two machines?

after you installed windows it will ask you would you like to register with microsoft online, click no or later
i installed it on many machine & it still works

when it goes to register - or check for software updates
the duplicate product key will show up

after 30 days it will lock up w/o activation....
