The dog is not left in a crate at all, She has another dog a choclate lab to play with. Yes she needs more toys personally I think she should come home at lunch to take her out. And for the sicko that thinks to get rid of the dog,,well I hope you dont own a pet..sick.

It's chewing because it's boared. Buy it a friend to play with.

The dog is bored, and a crate for a great dane would need to be very large. I think she needs to go home at lunch, let the dog know she is coming back home, let heri/him out to go to the bathroom and stretch it's legs. She probably shouldn't have gotten a dog at a young age, and not be there to socialize it. Hopefully, it gets lots of attention when she is home.

Poor dog. Seriously, in a crate all day and only let out for lunch? That is so cruel. The dog is in a state of frustration and loaded down with stress! The chewing stems from frustration and lack of companionship. Recommend to your friend that when she is home to devote at a minimum of 20 minutes to her pet and only to her pet for that period of time. Choose a dog toy(only one) and play with her with that toy. The dog will learn to love that toy because of the owner's scent and the happiness it reminds him/her of. It he/she decides to chew during the day he/she will head for the toy in most instances..............the crate must go except for travel.

the dog is chewing things either 'cause she is bored and has nothing to do or check the dog to see if she loosing her baby tooth. It sounds like it's the age where dogs loose their baby tooths...buy her some chew toys so she could chew on that. if not great danes tire out fast cause they are big dogs so take the dog out for a long walk or runs then take her home,...lol

Does the dog have any chew toys or anything like that?
Leaving dog in crate is cruel.
Dogs are pack animals....they need company....you can't leave them alone all day.

My recommendation.
Put dog up for adoption.
Find a good owner.
Leaving one year old dog(still almost a puppy) in crate is not good.

The furniture chewing is going to persist.
The dog is being treated improperly.

It is bored.
It has nothing to do.
It has a crappy owner.

Be sure to have lots of chewy toys around.

If you catch your Great Dane chewing on a shoe or furniture, use a stern "No" command and give him or her its' toys.

Be sure to give your Great Dane lots of kind praises when he starts chewing his toys.

Your Great Dane will soon learn what he should and shouldn't do.

Rub some Habanero juice all over the furniture....once the darned dog has an experience he will never forget, he will stop.
