I would actually recommend taking either. There are plus and minuses to both.

For one, it depends on which "science field" you're going into.

If it's medicine, as in a doctor or nurse type of thing, I would actually recommend Spanish for someone planning on either living in a spanish speaking country (obviously), or, even for those still in America, as the Hispanic population is rising, especially if you plan on living in a large city where there is a high hispanic poplulation.

Yes, most scientific names are based off of latin, but it's surprisingly not as useful as I would have thought---you get the name, but that doesn't always help. And, since Spanish (As is French, Italian, Portugeese, Romanian, ETC) is based off of Latin, a lot of the roots are the same or similar. Just taking spanish will give you a bit of an insight. (By the way, I've taken Spanish, Latin and Italian, and am pre-med, so there's my reasoning).

Also, Spanish is still spoken much more widely (Latin, South, and a lot of North America, as well as Spain, etc.) than Latin (Some churches and Vatican City). So, if you're planning on doing any travelling ever (I highly reccomend it!), it'd be much more useful.

However, Latin is a VERY useful language to study for the science field. My insight is that although Spanish may not be the number one most helpful, there may be benefits to it that aren't so direct.

If you are going into medicine and are going to be dealing with people daily, take Spanish...it is more useful. Latin is good, but remember, not all scientific terms are Latin based, a lot are Greek.

Latin would definitely help you with the terminology...I've taken only two years of the language and it has worked wonders for me...however, if by science you mean medicine, knowing the Spanish language would help with communicating with about 25% of your patients.

Hope this helps.

Unless you plan on working in a Spanish speaking nation, then there is no real reason to learn it. Also as Latin is the common scientific language it may be beneficial to learn it, although its probably better to focus on the actual science courses that focus on content, as you will learn the terms in those classes

Latin and Greek because most of the scientific terminology is based on those languages. It will also help to improve your English vocab.

However you may want to explore Spanish as well as far as being able to use a more dominantly spoken language.

Latin would help a lot in understanding language in medicine and biology.
If the person were to become a doctor at the border states in US, Spanish would help with the bedside practise.

specific, Latin could help immensely with your English qualifications and with any Romance language you would be able to come to a decision to take interior the destiny (like Spanish, Italian, French, and so on), yet i opt to advise taking Spanish whilst its being provided to you as a loose classification. Language training and classes can fee one as much as $500 for a semester. I guarentee that employers interior the destiny will require Spanish because it fairly is spoken by employing maximum folk interior the USA alongside with English and it fairly is going to be of extra use to you than Latin. in case you have the prospect to take the two, of path, actual bounce on that. in case you have an activity in the two, yet are no longer given the prospect to income the two, i opt to advise taking Spanish first. inspite of the indisputable fact that Latin is extra durable to stumble on in path possibilities of institutes, you won't be able to talk it to absolutely everyone besides. this permits you to income the fundamentals of Spanish at a youthful age and be on the brinks of flunecy once you pass away college (or quicker in case you practice on some Spanish friends!). the alternative is yours, of path, purely some issues to contemplate! Espero que te ayudo :]
