He went missing about 5 days ago, right after a big rain storm. I'm scared he might have drowned, but I still am looking. What are some places I could call and ask for help?

Call your local animal shelters and animal control. I strongly recommend you go to your local animal shelters and pound in person, because sometimes the people there are very busy and animals can 'fall through the cracks' - many pounds will not give information over the phone for that reason. Call all of the veterinary clinics and animal hospitals in your area, and put the word out to your neighbors, especially people with children (kids can be more observant sometimes). Take out a 'lost pet' advertisement in your local newspaper, and put out flyers in your area and at local vet clinics and shelters with a photo and description of your cat.

If you haven't cleaned your cat's litterbox, put some of the soiled litter around the outside of your house to give him a familiar scent to help recognize home.

If your cat is usually indoors, it's possible that he may be nearby and hiding because he is frightened. This web site has excellent suggestions for how to find a lost indoor cat, as well as some inspiring stories to help you keep up hope: http://www.catsinthebag.org/

I hope you find your cat!

Make sure you call local animal shelters first. If he was picked up and no one claims him, they'll put him down within a few days. It's already been 5 days, so if you haven't done so already, call immediately. Other than that, you can get out on your own and look for him. If you know the area he disappeared from, check around and knock on doors if you have to. Some people will just take animals in if they think they don't have a home. Check newspaper lost pet classifieds. Good luck.

Call the police in your area and also the road crew to see if any one reported a found cat. The city road crew to see if they picked up any dead cats. Also Call ALL the humane society and ALL the animal control offices in your area AND surrounding area's. There are usually more than 1 in an area. Call your local vets. Some one may of hit him with their car and brought him to the vets. Put flayers in stores and on poles in you entire town. He may also just be out looking for a girlfriend if he isn't fixed. Keep calling every day and go to look in shelters for him. Some times your description of him may not match what they wrote down. I had a lost dog who was black and white. When I called the pound they said they didn't have any black and white dogs but they had a black and white DINGO. Sure enough it was my dog Lady. If I didn't go to see for my self I would of never found her. Good luck. Also, if you live were it snows and by trailers he may be snowed in under a trailor. Call him and walk around at night when it is quiet and if he is around he may be able to hear you and come to you. Some one may of found him so keep looking in the lost and found section of your paper.

I feel terrible for you. You do not state your living cuircumstances, but if you are in a private home, leave some food out. If he is alive, he will come home. Cats are much more hardy than we realize. It is very unlikely that he drowned. It is more likely that he is carousing. 5 Days is not much. Give it some more time

you should try local animal shelters and vets. Also post an ad in your local newspaper. I really think she'll come back on her own. My cat was lost for 6 months and just came home one day when my family was having a barbecue! I really think you'll find him. Good Luck!

Your local humane society should have a list that they keep of lost and found cats. I would check through the list of found cats, and list him as missing. Hopefully, he'll find his way home on his own.

The HSUS has a great list that you should read:

http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/finding_a_lost_pet.html

Also, talk to UPS, mail carriers, and Fed Ex drivers in your area. They see the neighborhood's animals regularly. They may be able to keep an eye out for it.

Once you find her (I have faith that you will), please be sure to keep her inside at all times. It will help to prevent something like this from happening again.

Good luck to you in your search. : )

I would talk to your neighbors and people in your neighborhood. I would also suggest that you put food out. I had a cat that got out and it came back because of the food. She was lucky she was not hit or that nothing happened to her. GOOD LUCK

I have a friend who did this and it worked. Someone told her to put a pair of worn socks outside of her door and her cat showed up that same day.
