They used to be made with real sugar, cream, and chocolate. Today they're made with flavored corn syrup and partially hydrogenated soybean oil. Ick.

As you mature, your taste changes.

I think the little ones go stale more quickly. To enjoy the robust flavor of a Tootsie Roll you need to be at the store on the day candy is delivered and buy the regular size roll.

You are right!, In this day, & age with all the emphasis on health foods....they use less good old sugar, & fats....So less ingredients, & quantity equates to higher costs.........That's the way things are now.......By the way, I don't eat Tootsie rolls anymore.
If you want good candy....you have to go to World Market,(or places like that) & buy it. They get it from foreign countrys......It's rich, creamy & smooth!.....Try it.....You won't eat the junk they sell in the (used to be) good ole USA.

I always assume they're just not as fresh as the good ones you remember were. That's the way I see it- they seem to go stale so fast, and I haven't had a fresh one in years. I never thought they'd changed their recipe, though.
