Ok so here's the deal...my best friend in the whole wide world just happens to be a guy (yes he's gay, no comments from the peanut gallery please) and I am getting married 7-7-07. I really want him to stand with my girls but I am getting weird responses from the grooms family. I don't think that there is anything wrong with this, its not like he is wearing a dress or anything. Any ideas on how to make him mesh better with the whole thing?

Note: groom has no problem with it at all. He is very supportive of any decision that we make for the wedding,

This is your and your husband's day, so you should have what you want. if he is your best friend (not your husband's), he should stand on your side. I have a friend that got married 5 years ago, and all her attendants were male. Her husband had 3 brothers that were groomsmen. The bride's brother and her 2 best friends (male and heterosexual by the way) were her bridesmen. His suit should vary from the groomsmen and tie in with the bridesmaids - maybe his vest and tie would be the same color as the bridesmaid's dresses and the groomsmen would wear black vest and tie?

Yes, it's fine, just have him wear what the groomsmen are wearing, but he stands on your side. It's really not uncommon anymore to do this.

You can either can him a bridesman, or your man of honor, or just call all of your folks regardless of gender bride's attendants and groom's attendants.

You know, wedding traditions are changing all the time. I think it's all about bringing together people for YOU and your husband's matrimony. So if you want a "bridesman", you should have one! It doesn't matter what people say or think, it's your wedding. If your groom says it's fine, and he should because it's a dream for girls, you know? Girls put more into a wedding, usually, especially thoughts. Good luck!

The attendants, whether male or female, are for both of you. If you had a brother, he would be a groomsman. If your man had a sister, she would be your bridesmaid. Therefore your guy friend would be a groomsman. Don't make a mockery out of it, otherwise.

I have heard of men in the bridal party and women in the grooms....no big deal...what does the actual groom think? This day is for you and him. No one else!!!
