Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them.

The best cockroach poison in the world won't work if you don't do it right.
Do it at night.
First, make a river of poison wide around the infected area (for instance, around your whole kitchen and pantry area). Don't be afraid of putting too much of the stuff. Then, step inside the circle, and have a helper on the outside.
Take each object, each dish, each utensil, ONE by ONE, inspect it, and hand it to your helper on the other side of the circle. If there is an unsealed container of food, throw out the contents (far from the house, in a plastic bag, with some poison in it; if it is something dry like spaghetti, you could always wash it in a strainer, but throwing it away is always the best bet). If it is in a sealed plastic container (bag) that is in the same condition as in the store you bought it from, then just wash off the exterior of the bag, and pass it to your helper outside the circle.
Once the place is completely empty (and I mean completely!),
spray the whole place, each shelf of every cupboard, form top to bottom. Don't neglect an area because you think: "That looks clean". Then spray the whole floor area.
Step outside the circle, go get a few hours sleep, then return, and wash the whole place, spray again, and wash again.
Return every object (dish, utensil, etc.) to the cleaned area, washing each one carefully.
For the next few days, keep a sharp lookout. You still could have missed some eggs. If you see anything move, get it fast, before it has time to make new eggs.
I didn't say it would be easy! It is a hard all night if work. I know. I did it in an institution - I was sleeping above the kitchen and during 3 nights I was awakened by people trying to get rid of roaches. Finally one night I told them ot go away, I would take care of them if I could have just one helper. And I did it, doing exactly what I have just described.

I have had to fight that problem years ago, I sprayed and used Poisson nothing seemed to work.
Then I used a gel bate it took 2 or three weeks and I never seen one again (Use Combat Gel) It comes in a syringe, It's a brown gel bate. I guarantee it works and it cost about $7.00 or $8.00 per tube, Get about 2 of them.
It really works and you don't have that bad smell spray leaves.

Cochroaches are the hardest to get rid of....they've been around before us and will be the last men standing if we are ever wiped out. So this is where you should spend you $$$a nd get an exterminator...if you are renting its your landlords responsibility because they are from the building..unless you have mountians of garbage or are just being gross.

Honestly, if you have them bad enough, move somewhere else. They are almost impossible to get rid of, unless you live in a single family home. If you do, clean the place up, keep food closed tightly, and call an exterminator.
If you live in an apt. or such, you may never get rid of them.
