meet and who knows you might find your dream person there

That's probably because a lot of people still don't know very much about autism. They still think autistics are retarded, or violent, or completely anti-social, none of which are necessarily true for a particular person. Most people have no up-to-date or detailed knowledge about the condition, nor do most people have any training on how to communicate and socialize with autistic people. It's not a part of most educational programs in schools, so what can you expect? That being said, there are people out there that are very accepting, eager to understand it, and willing to befriend autistic persons. Be patient, they'll find you if you are able to open yourself up enough - and that can be difficult. Could you volunteer to speak to a group about your situation?
That could have far-reaching results for you. I see that new research has isolated a number of faulty genes that are associated with autism, and it looks like the more of these genes a person has, the greater the degree of autism they exhibit. Anyway, the best of luck to you! Email me if you want a pen pal.

I'm 50 with a formal diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome.
Like minds are difficult to come by. Once those at work grew to understand me they got to love my quirkiness, but it took a while.

Acting, to fit in, is something I can do and sometimes its necessary, but it's no way to relax.
It's hard work, on the whole.

The best bet, I've found, are special interest groups focussed on hobbies or such, where the area of conversation and activity is somewhat pre-defined.
