At 4 years old he/she should be using the toilet, not a potty. Maybe the child realizes this and resents sitting on a potty

Not that it truly matters... but do you have a boy or a girl? The reason I am asking is because I have two girls, with both of them we used a doll that potties. You give it water, place it on a toilet and it goes pee-pee. After the girls seen this, they decided if the doll can do it, so could they. Not sure if it would work with a boy or not.

My other suggestion is maybe trying to take your child into the bathroom with you when you go to the bathroom and have him/ or her sit on the potty... just so that they could get into a routine. It might also encourage them to start as well.

My mother with my brother used cheerios in the potty and made him aim. Turned it into a game. As a reward she gave him smarties candies.

Hope one of these help you.

they have really fun and informative videos out now that help the child undrestand..one good one is bear and the big blue house....also I would make a chart and it had things like goes potty, picked up toys etc and each time they did those things, they got to pick out a sticker and put it on the chart for that item on that day...four stickers earned a sucker...reward system of things that they like...video worked great at helping the grand daughter...they have all these animals and they deal with accidents, big people toilets, little tikes potty, etc etc ...hope this helps

Try going to into the bathroom with them and holding their hand. This sometimes works. What my mom did for my sister was tell her that she'll have to use diapers like a baby so she tried the toilet and it worked!

Try offering rewards and I knwo this sounds bad, but it really is time for bribing here! lol I also know they make apotty that when something hits hte bottom music plays. Its hilarious for the parents but the kids really love it and it makes them feel proud.

be patient....they will when they are ready..if you force them that will lead to bed wetting and holding it back, which can lead to bladder infections and other complications..you might want to check with your dr. your 4 year old might allready have a medical problem.such as a bladder infection...better to check and be safe..
