this is a long-hair story
my natural hair colour is light brown. in september last year i dyed my hair black with a semi-permament dye. then stupidly in october i decided to bleach my long hair and i totally fried it. i dyed over it with a dark semi dye a couple of times and it looked fine, apart from being in bad condition. i dyed it once more at christmas and it's a darkish brown now with unnoticable lighter roots. thankfully its almost grown out but it's still very dark. i was wondering if i used a lighter brown dye would it lighten it.. or darken it?
note that my hair is in pretty good condition now apart from the ends

i am not paying for salon treatment as im a poor student and i want to go blonde eventually (as i have done for ages) and im going to get THAT done professionally

sorry about the longness of this.

it would lighten it but it may have redish tones to it. You might want to use a highlighter kit and slowly lighten it and when you are ready to go totally blond it won't be such a drastic change.

Don't dye it again! Unless you use a light brown dye which contains bleach, it will just add colour to your hair, making it darker... and when you try to go blonde it'll just go orange.

As people have said, get as much cut off as possible and avoid dying it at all if you really want to go blonde. If you want to cover any roots, use a non-permanent (not semi) with no red hues at all. Most brown dyes contain some red to make them warmer, and red is one of the hardest colours to remove, even for professionals!

ok...i've got accomplished an identical ingredient and that i've got had an identical problem. problem it as much as you are able to. you won't be in a position to over-problem yet you are able to over-shampoo. Shampooing dries out the hair and takes out hair's organic oils. Get a do-rag(you understand, the ingredient you spot gangsters placed on in video clips?), placed some conditioner in, out the rag on and go away it in in one day. you like the rag, because of the fact in any different case the pillowcase absorbs the conditioner. yet another ingredient you should do, get a silk pillowcase. Silk does not eliminate any moisture. do no longer EVER brush your hair whilst it is moist. yet another ingredient, gross, inspite of the undeniable fact that it facilitates, is crack 2 eggs. rub down the eggs with the aid of your hair, and go away the mixture on for a pair of one million/2 hour. This strengthens the hair simply by eggs' protein and it additionally makes your hair shine. provide up the blow drying and straightening. i understand your hair seems sturdy, inspite of the undeniable fact that it is not nicely worth it. in case you unquestionably ought to, by making use of a steam straightener, which hydrates because it is straightening. desire this helped!

Cut the ends. Try a rinse for the next 6 months. No dyes.

I would trim the ends or however you much hair you can stand losing to help it grow out faster, I wouldn't dye it anymore and risk it since you are so close to having it grown out. It is hair, if you cut it, by the time your color is even farther along with growing out, your hair will be about the length it was before you got it cut. And, it's hair. It will always grow back. :)

I believe it would lighten it...I would suggest bleaching it first, but it sounds like you've had some bad experiences with that.
