When studying the bible, one finds that God spoke to Adam and Eve, Cain after killing Abel, Noah, Moses, Lot, Abraham, Job & Joseph, earthly dad to Jesus. Has anyone noticed that God spoke to people pre-Bible being written, but never during the writing nor after, up to the present time? And if God wasn't literally conversing with humans, he'd appear or have his angels appear in dreams.
So, what's wrong with conversing with humans 1-1 today?
People say, "I pray to God" but they never say, "God spoke to me; we had a great conversation about my prayer"....makes one wonder about this God and his being so choosy about who he'll actually talk to.

Many people talk to God every day. Most of them never tell anyone because of the ridicule that is sure to follow such a statement.
I assure you that God is quite willing to talk to anyone who is willing to listen 24/7.
Love and blessings Don

My pastor says that God does not "speak" to people today. Bad wording in my opinion. He means God does not speak in an audible voice. Debatable. However I do believe God speaks to us. My mother is always telling me what God told her to do. In the Bible it talks about a "still small voice" it could be described as a gentle nudge or a sudden urge to do something. My mother had no intention of visiting the hospital but found herself pulling in and went and ended up visiting a friend having a miscarriage and refused to call anyone. My pastor puts it this way. In the beginning God conversed with man. Then Jesus came down as man. Now it is the time of the Holy Spirit. All are God.

This may sound very 'Sunday school' but it's true... the Bible is His way of speaking to our hearts. Christians are filled with the Holy Spirit who speaks to us through out the day... He lets us know when we've done something that was wrong sometimes He puts a situation or calling on our hearts. Example: 'pray for Bob' or 'go do this'.... God still speaks but His voice is not always heard in a whirlwind of fire, or thunder and lightning, sometimes He speaks in the small still voice...
Anyways, I hope that helps!
God Bless!

Actually God speaks to me all the time. He told me to write and where to send the manuscript to be published. He told me when it was time to let go of my son and let God guard him. He often gives me insights into the things I read in both the Bible and other books.
Most people don't tell others outside of their closest friends about the things God says to them because many people don't believe God talks to people anymore. Sometimes, too, it's too personal to share with just anyone.

God talks to me ALL THE TIME. He does it in several ways; through the scriptures in the bible, through the Spirit of God in the person of the Holy Ghost that dwells in the heart and mind of every believer. He guides, leads, convicts and forgives me of my sins, and through answering my prayers.
You are also wrong about the bible. All throughout the bible God spoke to people: To Moses, whom he told the creation story; to the prophets who prophesied all throughout the old testament, to the disciples and apostles, to the hearing of anyone present at the baptism of Jesus by John, by every word that came out of Jesus's mouth *he was, is and ever more shall be God,* to Paul on his way to persecute Christians at Demascus, and finally to the spirit of the seven churches in Revelations, which is yet to come.
He will also speak to you, if you let him. "Behold I stand at the door and knock. Any man who opens to me I will come in and sup with him and he with me." Revelations.
Believe and don't doubt. You'll hear the voice of God too.

I'm wondering why you think this: "....but they never say, "God spoke to me; we had a great conversation about my prayer"....
I say this ALL THE TIME, and so do almost all the Christians I know! Dialog with God is a normal, everyday part of my life. I talk about it with friends, ministers, and my husband....
Maybe you haven't been to a church that encourages prayer?

The conversing only took place between people of faith. Nowadays God does converse with us but more indirectly. He has poured out the Holy Spirit and that is a far greater gift. Keep in mind we will have all eternity to talk to him.

God has "spoken" to me on several occasions. It only happens rarely but sometimes I just know that God is telling me something. Here's one example for you.
God told me to take the Out of the Salt Shaker class at my church. And I tried to argue with Him and tell Him that I didn't need to go because I already knew how to witness to people and I already had the book for the class at home.
But you can't win an argument with God so I said I would talk to the Pastor who was holding the class to see if I could fit it into my schedule. So I asked Pastor Toby when the class started because it was on a Sunday and I served in the children's ministry during one service and attended the other service.
Well, it just so happened that the class was starting the day after we were starting an extra Saturday night service. So I told the Pastor about what was going on and I'm like "Gee, you know, it almost seems like there is some invisible almighty being who is directing the course of my life according to his will instead of mine" and we both laughed.
At the end of the class the Pastor told us that he believed that God had called each one of us to the class for a reason and we should all pray about it and come back the next week with what God told us. So I prayed about it and God told me that He wanted me to join the Correctional Institutions Chaplancy.
I'm like "Go to the Jail???....I don't really want to go hang out at the jail", but you can't argue with God and win. Now I go to the jail twice a month and have a great time sharing the Bible with inmates and more often than not I get to lead someone in praying to receive Christ.
My Pastor has many stories of God speaking to him and so do other members of the church I attend. http://www.alcf.net
I know that God is at work in our midst. He told my Pastor about 16 years ago that He wanted him to come to California because He had thousands of people whom He was going to use my Pastor to call into His family. So he left his position as an associate Pastor of a church of 1,000 people and came to Pastor a church of about 35 people. He says that even his car tires were telling him he had made a mistake because when he was driving down the freeway the tires were making a noise like they were saying "you're a fool, you're fool, you're a fool" as they spun around down the highway.
But today there are about 5,000 people in the congregation and every month about 75 more people join and after every service people come up and answer the altar call to ask Jesus to be their Savior. I was one of those people about 5 years ago and I had never been to church before except for someone's wedding. But people were praying for God to call sinners and circumstances beyond my control caused me to have to show up there one day when I was in a nearby rehab program.
After the service when I was getting ready to leave they had the altar call and something told me to go on up. A Pastor led me in prayer and told me to open my heart and ask God to receive his Holy Spirit. My life has totally changed since that day. I was stressed out and feeling hopeless when I showed up but on the way home it was like a great burden had been lifted from my shoulders and the stress just went away.

I believe that He still communicates with His people, He just does it in a different way. God is the same yesterday today and forever.
