If someone tries to hurt you, just having a bond with the dog will make it naturally jump in to protect you.

But I am sorry to say this - Pit Bulls do not make good gaurd dogs. If you make your dog hate everyone else, then you have a disaster waiting to happen. Your dog needs to be well socialized - and the natural tendency of Pit Bulls is to lick everyone to death. Of course if anyone is walking by your house, the dog will bark - but that should be your cue to bring the dog in so it does not get stolen.

Keep a watchful eye on your dog, and make sure he likes other people. You do not want a lawsuit on your hands unless it is from defense of your life.

You're making many mistakes and you'll end up with a law suit and your dog destroyed if you continue to think the same way. 99% of people have no need for an actual fully trained personal protection dog. All they need is a large dog that can bark. A well socialized dog is the best watch dog that you can have. A fearful nervy shy sharp dog is a HUGE liability and more likely to nail you, your family member, or a neighborhood child than a burglar or something like that. Have the pup meet as many people as possible. That will teach them how to tell friendly people from suspicious people. All my dogs are friendly and well socialized, but they will all inform me of something suspicious. Pit bulls are not good guard dogs as they are supposed to be very people friendly. Most would rather play ball with a burglar than defend your property. And if you are out walking a pit bull, I really doubt many people are going to try to mess with you anyways. A well trained, well socialized dog is your best bet.

get him properly trained to be a watch or guard dog, there are training schools such as Man's Best Friend that say that they can train your dog to protect you and your property and still be a very friendly and well-behaved member of the family.

He will protect you...that shouldn't be a concern...but you need to keep him well socialized with other people...You and him will be MUCH happier for it!
