There will be a man, sometime in the future, who is the antichrist. Although he will wield great power on the earth for several years, ultimately he will end up in the lake of fire along with satan and the false prophet. The bible also says that anyone who "denies that Jesus is come in the flesh has the spirit of the antichrist". The actual man has not yet come upon the world scene....although he may be alive at this very moment.

There are a lot of different interperetations, as to whether it's a specific being or a movement in the populace or a country or what have you...

But basically it points down to exactly what it sounds like. Christ is love, Anti-Christ is hate. Christ is peace, Anti-Christ is war. Christ is the saviour, Anti-Christ the bringer of damnation. Whatever it is, when people allow the Anti-Christ to gain sway is when it all starts going really downhill as far as Revelations is concerned.

If you buy all that, anyway.

In Christian eschatology the Antichrist or Anti-christ (literally: anti, opposite; christ, messiah) has come to mean a person, image of a person, or other entity that is the embodiment of evil. The name Antichrist has come to represent the person or being, the Bible says, will rise to world dominance during the End Times just before the Second Coming. Then Christ will destroy his power.

the anti-christ is a man just like you and me who will be greatly used by satan during the tribulation which is after the Second Coming when all true christians have gone to heaven. He will make a seven year peace treaty with Israel and bring peace to the middle east. But after three and a half years, he will break his promise and bring havoc unto this earth. he will demand everyone to take the mark "666" in other to show loyalty to him. whoever does not take the mark will not be able to buy or sell and will be killed or sent to jail and tortued in hopes of forcing them to take the mark. but taling the mark only seals one's eternal doom in hell. the antichrist will later be conquered by Christ during the beggining of WWIII, bringing an end to his reign and God and the Christians will rule on the earth for a millenium until the Great White Throne Judgment where everyone ever born from the dawn of time is brought forward and has to give account of their life's deed to God. (only sinners partake in this judgment and will be sent to hell for eternity)

The term has a general meaning as used in the First Letter of John, "anti" having two meanings, namely "against", but also "in the place of". It also refers to a specific world ruler who will be completely controlled by Satan, and who will appear in the last days for a brief time before he and his government is destroyed by the return of Christ.
For a brief introduction I recommend you read the 2nd chapter of II Thessalonians, and the 13th chapter of Revelation.

The Bible talks about the "spirit of anti-christ." In Christianity, it's believed to be a mindset, a way of operating, a way of thinking that attempts to crush the message of Christ, and take a murderous attitude toward believers. It's a hatred and rejection of the ideals of Jesus: that God saved us through his death and resurrection.

1st John 2v18Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
20But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 22Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 23Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 24Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 25And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. 26These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Anti = against. Christ = God/Jesus.

Putting the two together, we find that

Anti Christ = Against God/Jesus.

The Bible says that the Antichrist will be a person. The pronoun used suggest that the Antichrist will be male (i.e. ... "he").
