My son is turning 3. For his first birthday we had a picnic and it rained. For his 2nd birthday we took him to Chuck-E-Cheese and he loved it! He has been talking about it since! His birthday is in May and we live in Michigan. The weather is so unpredictable here during that time that I don't want to plan something outside, and our house is too small to have family and friends all inside. So I am looking for some good birthday party ideas!

My son turned 4 last December and we did a reptile show at a local nature center (next to our zoo). We invited his preschool class which is kids ages 3 - 6 and they all had a blast. I made up treat bags with "animal explorer" type things like a flashlight, compass, notepad, pen, binoculars. I got all the treat bag stuff from Oriental Trading Company. I made cupcakes and iced them with green icing so they looked like lily pads and put a tiny plastic frog on each one.

The nature center provided a staff person who brought three reptiles (snake, lizard and frog) and gave a short talk about each and then allowed the kids to touch as she walked around the group.

After the reptile show and the cupcakes the kids did a scavenger hunt through the rest of the center. It was a picture scavenger hunt. Each kid got a sheet with pics of animals and a sheet of smily face stickers. Everytime they found an animal they put a sticker on their sheet.

It went really well. I got a lot of positive feedback from the other moms too. Better than just filling them full of candy and cheap pizza!

We did do Chuck E Cheese just our family the actual night of his birthday.

Hope that helps,
Heather

If he likes disney like most young children do than have a disney party, let him/her dress up in there favorite costume, and do the disney theme. Have a disney cake, party favors, pinniata, and if you plan it ahead of time try and get the guest who are his friends to dress up in there favorite costume. If your not planning in advance than hire a face painter and let the birthday boy/girl wear there costume while the face painter can paint the other childrens face in a disney charector. I'm actually doing this for my sons 5th b-day party next weekend. Hope this helps.

Go back to Chuck-E-Cheese. That way you'll be sure to have another hit on your hands!
