I don't believe aspartame is as much to blame as people would like to believe. I think it's the caffeine in the sodas and other products causing the joint pain. Too much caffeine isn't good for you. The other question to ask yourself is are you drinking enough water? Muscles and soft tissues of the body need WATER. Caffeine can cause "charlie horses" and other cramping, which is not really an allergy, but a reaction of the muscles to lack of water and need for calcium.

Allergies can happen at any age, and with any food. I don't think it was anaphylaxis but it does sound like an allergic reaction. You should see a doctor and get allergy tested because it could get worse and next time you could go into anaphylactic shock. Or on the other hand - it could have purely been an anxiety thing as you seem pretty worried about it all. ( i know.. i've been there..) Do get tested asap.

Of course they can. Do read also about the art
ificial sweetener aspartame which is a common ingredient and in Diet Coke. It is linked to numerous complaints. Just Google diet coke Dr. Roberts and prepare to be shocked by the findings.
I believe the more artificial things and pollutants we are bombarded with the more likely we are to be sick and to develop allergies to natural products. Play safe and eat what would have been available 100 years ago

Yes, I agree. Anything which causes inflammation (allergies) can choose any part of your body to accumulate and cause pain, swelling, heat, and lack of function. Personally, my experiences have led me to believe my sensitivities to coffee, acidic foods, and dairy products have affected my joints, maybe this is true for you as well.

Food allergies can cause just about any ailment that you can think of... Best bet is to go to the allergist, get tested against most of the foods that you eat to find out which ones you are allergic to, and eliminate them from your diet.
