I'm bipolar and I have been taking lamictal for maybe 9 months, perhaps longer. It took me a long time to get the dose right where I wasn't sleeping 14 hours a day. I find that I can think sharper and my memory is better. The depression is helped somewhat, but I had to add on some prozac to help some more. I still have to sleep about 10 hours a day, maybe more. I still am in emotional agony many hours a day, but I have 5 or 6 pretty good hours a day without complete despair, so that is quite an improvement for me! And I can get more done around the house, since I can take the prozac as long as I am on the lamictal. I can handle mildly stressful things such as driving to strange places (like a new doctor's office) without having to pull over and cry for a half hour. I do much better playing the piano too (although I'm still terrible at it!!!) The lamictal does seem to keep the prozac from sending me off to the moon. I get hyper, and internally restless, but don't quite break into mania or even hypomania. All in all, I'm pleased with it. My brother takes it too, and finds about the same result. We both tried many meds over the years, and this is the only one that works for us among the bipolar meds.

I've been taking it for 3 months about....

I don't notice anything. I've been at 200 mgs (standard dose) and lower... no results really.

I also take Abilify with which I do have results (decreases depression)... but I took the Lamictal separately before the Abilify so I could see what the Lamictal would do.

I was on Neurontin and Lamictal but no one knew that it was affecting my job performance. I also was very confused and would get lost in the town where I have lived for 35 years. I got fired from my job. Be careful.

My 10-yr-old son takes Lamictal and several other meds. for his multiple conditions. He has taken it for two years now and has had good results from it. It is a mood stabilizer that helps to control his bipolar cycling moods. It also helps him not to be so depressed, and to control his impulsive behavior. It is often given for bipolar d/o and other mood d/os.

How do you feel taking Lamictal?

I've been taking Lamictal for five years. I like Depakote better. I was much happier on Depakote. Today, in fact, my doctor is switching me back to Depakote.

I heard that many people like Lamictal better. I guess it depends on what your doctor wants you to be on.

Good luck and G-d bless !!

I'd go to www.cchr.org if I were you and watch the videos of the psychs saying they cure no one and they have no valid tests for mental illness.
