Do you have to always warm-up in some way? Or can you build muscle by doing sit ups and push ups on one day and cardio on another. Does it only work if you have can get your heart rate up? If I'm just sitting here watching tv, is it worth doing crunches if I haven't warmed myself up at all? Or will it not do anything at all? I do boxing three days a week as it is which includes a lot of skipping and bag work but I was just thinking of something to do instead of just sitting here.

Sounds as though your heart rate should be great with
the work out you get from boxing. you can take that chair
and put it to good use. (a good kitchen chair will do)
First face the chair and grab the sides. Then straighten
your legs out and get on your toes. Now do your push ups.
Next time try putting your feet on the chair and stretch out
all the way and puts your hands on the floor. Now do your
push ups. Changing the routing will help you to do this more
often. you can grab the chair first, from behind and do some
knee bends then go around to the front of the chair and back
up to it. Stay 3 to 6 inch from if and grab the sides. (palms
down) existent your legs out and do some push ups that
way. This will give you a little warm up. I think with you being
a boxer your body is flex able enough. Not to worry about
pulling anything.
Hope this helps?

PS go on and keep watching your favorite shows.
Remember your and your favorite chair are doing their job.

The warm up is to prevent injury. Any muscle action will tone, to build you have to exceed your usual range of effort. So expand the range of your exercising through Isometrics see if you can move ones you normally would not exercise. Balancing your muscle strength will prevent injuries. It will also help in boxing because you will be able to vary your attacks

If you dont warm up before exercise, you are asking for injury. Cold muscle injures much more readily, and stretching is good for your your flexibility and muscle tone anyway, it's so worthwhile.

the point of doing a warm up is to avoid injury - doing crunches from cold will still burn calories but you risk damaging yourself and putting yourself out of action. doing a few stretches first won't take too long will it? x
