Depends on how much is chipped off. If it's a good chunk the dentist will file down what you have left into a point then put a crown or fake tooth over it. (My dad just had this done not too long ago.)

You will need an xray, then he will remove the decay, if enough good tooth is left, he will put in asimple filling. If not enough tooth , he will need t rebuild the tooth, a buildup, and then he will crown it. Fillings are charged by the number of sides, crown is going to be costly. He can also do the build up and you can wait awhile before you crown. They run close to a thousand dollars- build up around 240-290 3 sided filling close to 290 ,

This has happened to me. They'll file it down and put a crown on it. It's a relatively painless procedure, so don't worry. Just make an appointment to get it taken care of soon or more of the tooth may break off, as it is now weaker.

same for me. dentist won't do the root canal and rebuild. wants to pull and put in a little bridge. why? won't tell. i can only guess, she thinks it wont hold that long and she does bridges herself. loves to do bridges. i know this, when you broke that tooth as i broke mine, it is exposed to the soft core without the enamel coveringand it is certain to decay very quickly. if it hollows out you get more bacteria and infection prone plus it will be difficult to pull out when it becomses necessary. so what ae you gonna do? easy to put off isnt it? damn dentists and doctors.gotta do it their way or no way and yet they all disagree with each other ins or no.

a dentist coud smoothen the rough edges so your tongue doesnt get irritated again.u may have some sensitivity initially. the dentist may decide to fabricate a metal or porcelain crown for the tooth.he could decide to palliatively fill the chipped off part with glass ionomer cement

They will put a temporary cap on it until they can see you, do all the necessary x-rays, etc.. Try to get this done asap so that they can save the tooth and it won't cause you so many problems in the future. Good luck!!!
