When Sadie goes outside she just gulps and gulps snow...she is 3 1/2 years old and it is getting worse. She has plenty of fresh water in the house. Will she get sick?

She is just playing! She probably leads a pretty boring life and it is her only form of entertainment...

& to think, you used to think my GSP's were goofy! :)

Snow is a dog thing.

But when the farrier comes to trim and shoe the horses - the dogs gather round to eat the cuttings from the hoofs - snow is OK, hoof trimmings is beastly.

Oh well what can we say after letting out loving pets sleep on the couch/

We are in the middle of a snow storm now and my Goldens were in heaven eating the snow and jumping around like nuts in the white stuff! So funny!

They may enjoy the texture of the snow when it melts in their mouths. But snow should not be too bad for them, unless they are loosing too much body heat in the act of equalizing the temperature between the snow and he body temp.

she won't get sick............the snow is purer than your house water. She probably just loves to eat it like a lot of people do. Or she may still be thirsty even after she has finished the water she has in the house.

My border collie sheltie mix does this too. Maybe just not that much. He's never gotton sick but I do stop him and bring him in and give him cold, cold water. He has alot of fur I think it helps him cool down. His water also has to be really fresh. I mean he wants fresh new water every time he drinks.

It's just like drinking except for more fun. Have you never ate snow? Plenty of people do it. You won't get sick it's just like drinking water. The water melts in your mouth and it's colder and more refreshing, kinda like how chocolate melts in your mouth.

Lots of dogs do that. It is not a big deal... As long as the snow isn't yellow it won't make your dog sick... It's just snow...

She is probably thristy and likes that fact it is so cold. A lot of dogs do that, but there is something in snow that if one consumes too much of it it can make one sick.

My dog does this all the time in the winter. She likes it because it's colder than the water in the house, and it's definately not going to hurt your dog. I bet she would like ice cubes out of your freezer too, just like mine.
