The "Marvin Window & Door Company" is renowned for the quality and energy efficiency of it's products. This is reflected in the price of their products. They are generally higher priced, but in this situation, you get what you pay for.

Marvin began building windows and doors in Warroads, Minnesota which is just south of the canadian border. It is in one of the coldest areas of the lower 48 states. Since day one, they have sought to build a high quality energy efficient window. For many years, all of their products were custom built to order in their Minnesota factory. In an effort to expand their business to the new construction market, they developed the "Integrity" line of products. They built a state of the art factory in Tennessee in order to manufacture the Integrity line.

Their Integrity line of products are built to standardized sizes that are commonly used by new home builders. This enabled Marvin to build and stock standard sizes for quick delivery to builders. Even though they are standard sizes, they do not sacrifice quality. They definately cost more money than other windows of the same size, but I feel they are well worth the money.

I spent most of my working life in the home building and remodeling business. My company replaced all of the windows in more than a few homes where the cheap builder grade windows were less than ten years old. Most new home buyers look at the cabinets, light fixtures, and flooring while they ignore the quality of the windows. Many later regret the oversight.

If I sound like a commercial for Marvin, but I can only say that they are the best windows I have ever sold and installed. I recommend them highly.

Good luck with your new windows.

I had a similar problem with the windows in my 14 yr old home. They were wood windows with aluminum cladding on the outside. After 13-14 yrs, the wood cores of the windows were rotting away because the caulking around the window unit failed. I replaced them with PVC frame windows. There is no wood in the window, it's all plastic PVC with marine grade rubber gaskets and triple glazed windows filled with inert gas. They look great, and I've cut my heating and cooling costs a great deal just by replacing the windows. Many different window manufacturers make PVC windows, and you should do a little research on them to get the proper windows for your needs.
