Well I had the same problem...I had a lot of blood in my urine. I got tested for every possible thing. The doc said their was nothing wrong with me...He said that normally people have blood in their urine. In some cases people have more than others. He also said that if you do a lot of excercise that more blood will show in your urine....

I read all of the other answers and for the most part they are all right (except that orange juice reference...not true). One thing that was not mentioned is that exercise can cause occult blood in your urine. If you tests shows trace amounts, it's probably nothing to worry about. Internal bleeding will also present in your stool - which would be almost black. If it's not black, I'd say you could rule out internal bleeding.

There are multiple causes of blood in urine. Some are serious, including cancers, trauma, stones, infections, and obstructions of the urinary tract. Others are less important, and may require no treatment. These may include viral infections, nonspecific inflammations of the kidney, medications which thin the blood's clotting ability, and benign prostate enlargement.
Yours must be the kind that needs no treatment

my son has exercise induced hematomia in his urine.
We've had every test run possible, but everything has been normal. Just the more that he runs and plays, the more blood that he has. he is 7 now and he has had it for 2 years.

Tammy,
Some times when you are lifting things, such as furniture
and the like this is enough to cause a strain. This in turn
can cause your body to release blood in your urine.
usually this will stop.
Hope this helps.

Internal bleeding causes it. Blood tests do not detect internal bleeding.
