hmm...i hope that u do know todays paintings cant beat the paintings done by the masters in those days...however, if you need some pointers for the debate, maybe you could use these points...but, im sure they are not very strong to oppose against the other team..but no harm in trying...
1. different and unique mediums in paintings... (acrylic, ink n pen, etc)
2. emboss effects and other new effects on paintings
which were not there, back in those days.
3. paintings done out of free thinking and unique inspirations (thinking out of box)
4. vibrant colours and different techniques
5. no fear in experimenting with new styles

Imagine if people cant even write correctly nowadays. . .
In that time we had some of the finest artists teaching other fine artists their technique and vision. From a very young age they would dedicate all their time to learning and practicing. People have a very hectic lifestyle today and must go to work, school, etc. Also, people don’t have the same passion or need of art, that they did at that time.

It really depends on your tastes. Personally, I hate contemporary art. I don't care about people painting Coke Cans or brightly colored people dancing around. In art, it all depends on what you like best. One is never really better than the other, just different.

Art never gets better. It just changes. Technology and medium changes, politics in art change, style, idea... but that's all change, not improvement. There are artists that are better than others. but art from each time period never gets better.
