my moms Boxer has something wrong with her nose. It almost looks like a wart covering the whole tip of her nose. Molly is six years old and when mom got her, there was nothing wrong. Is there anyone who can help identify what that is? I will send pictures if you think you can help. I just don't want to bring her to the vet if I don't have to, not a whole lot of money to do it. Please help me. Thank you.

Is it like a hard horny growth?

If so it is something that could get far worse, it can go in cycles, it will get better, then months alter reappear getting worse, nose colour changes and scars form, nose leather tends to be smooth rather than pebbly like other dog noses.

It can be an autoimmune disease which require daily lifelong treatment and for that you do need to see a vet, one of my dog's has this, her form is Discoid Lupus Erythematosus and has disemminated affecting her lips, vulva and flanks as well

A person in Europe put together a great website and a photographic diary of the progress of her dog and it's littermate brother who also has, and includes info on other auto immune diseases that can also affect noses and or other parts of the body it is written in two language so to view in english choose the english flag

another possible autoimmune disease that is mentioned under autoimmune diseases and can also affect the nose is PEMPHIGUS ERYTHEMATOSUS

I hope it is not this as it can be frustrating watching them slowly get worse.
I have been having good lucky with stopping the progression and severity by switching Maya to a super high protein diet Innova EVO to boost her immune system, this year the severity of the outbreak was much less than last year

The other possibility is it is some type of tumor which could be cancerous, the earlier you get to the vet the better if you want a successful outcomewait too long if surgery is needed the vet maybe unable to remove enough tissue and thenn chemo may be needed or it could spread to other parts of the body. This is the main reason it is necessary to have a vet check out any lump that appears asap

This definitely needs to be seen by a vet and **as soon as possible**. It could very likely be a tumour of some sort - - and cancerous -- especially if it has gradually been getting bigger. If the dog has more a pink than black nose it will be more susceptible to skin cancer on the nose -- this is true of cats as well. As some boxers have white coats or particolour coats they do sometimes have lighter noses so that may be an issue here.

You need to find out if this is a benign growth or cancerous and I would get the dog to a vet TODAY. Good luck; I hope all turns out well. If all checks out as benign you probably will want this growth removed to prevent it becoming malignant (just as people need to have growths like this removed to be safe). Your vet can tell you very quickly if it needs to be removed by doing a biopsy on the tissue and will give you all the information you will need but this shouldn't be left to develop any further.

I'm sorry about your mums Boxer. I have 3 cats and know what it's like to be low on money when your pet is sick. There is no way to tell by a picture but it sounds as though it could be a tumor or cancer. Boxers are very prone to cancer and different tumors so be prepared if that's what it comes down to. This may be a hard time for you (financially) but please take Molly to the vet. It could be a malignant tumor or it could be a fatty tumor. The only way to tell for sure it by taking Molly to a vet.

Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Hiya, if it is a wart this could need surgical removal but you could try garlic tablets to try and limit infection, and greenleaf tablets to reduce discomfort. Without seeing pictures it would be hard to tell whether it is a wart or not.
If it looks sore try rubbing some non-alcoholic skin balm on it, my vet recommended this when one of my dogs got a wart before. The best thing to do would be to get a vet to look at it just to make sure, after all I am sure you would like to find out sooner rather than later if it is something serious.
However if it is a wart, dependent on size and location it made need surgery to remove, but it may however be perfectly fine.

My tip though would be to contact a vet.

Is it painful, will she let you touch it, does it look like a scab or is it a growth, is it affecting her breathing? I would definately take her to the vet regardless of cost. Skin cancer affects dogs on the nose mainly because of the exposed skin. If its a scab, she may have damaged the sensitive skin and tissue. If it is a wart it may inhibit her breathing. Any growth on a dogs nose should be checked by a vet.

Our golden retriever/collie mix goes barreling into the woods at full speed and has a tendency to run smack into trees. She got herself good last summer, had a horrible black bruise on it, then it scabbed up and I thought she'd be disfigured for ever, but it eventually disappeared. If I were you, I'd check with the vet, just in case. I don't remember hearing of any dogs getting skin cancer, but I do know our old dog had benign tumors on him, so it really needs to be checked. Even if it did turn out to be cancerous, if you catch it early, it can be dealt with. You could call around and ask how much it would cost just to have a vet take a quick look. Good luck.

It may be possible that it is a wart, because after all they sniff everything with their little noses. I highly suggest taking your pet to a veterinarian, only because nobody, except for vets, have the ability of noticing what is wrong with her. There may be other symptoms that are invisible to you. So, please go see a vet for your sake and you Boxer.

Ask your vet over the phone since he/she does your moms dogs regular check-ups. If he says to come in ask about a discount rate since you have been customers there for a while or ask about a payment plan.
